I just put on a set of Avid Ascend (LRR) this morning. One change I wade was put on 205/60 R 16s instead, because the speedo was always off even after I adjusted it in the console. Now everything is correct and I have a proper speed reading. We were able to suck 39,000 miles out of the original ecopias, and there were probably a thousand left, but it was not work it.

I also pumped the tires up to 45 psi out of a max of 51psi on the sidewall. Over the next few days I will evaluate the drive and decide if I should leave it at that level or decrease it a bit. The ecopias were kept at 44, and the wear was even across all four. What helped was my obsession with rotating the tires every 5,000 miles. So yes, I will put one thousand miles on these then rotate them :D

I haven't waded through all the tire posts yet, but thought I'd pose the question:

Any advantage going to a 60 series, vs. 55? 95% of our driving is 40mph or less, very rarely at highway speeds, neither of us are speed demons, looking for max efficiency.

Has anyone tried Continental TrueContact, 205/60 X 16? Currently $94 at Tirerack, Vs Ecopia @ $107.

TrueContact 70,000m treadwear vs. 40,000m for the OEM Ecopia,

According to other posts I have read, the after-market Ecopias are a much better tire than the OEM Ecopias. Changing tire sizes from the manufacturer recommendation will affect performance and handling of the vehicle. My advice is to go with the recommended tire size for the wheels on the car, and to get the best tires you can afford. If you want maximum efficiency, you will need LRR tires, and they usually cost more.

Someone on FB used the Continental super eco whatevers and states he lost 20% in range.

OEM Ecopias and ones from Firestone have different load ratings so not the same tire in any sense. Also different mileage ratings. I have become to realize (despite the badging) that the OEMs are like Ecopia 422's while the Firestone (or Bridgestone which is one company BTW) are 422 Plus based on differences in mileage warranties (65,000 to 70,000)

it is annoying to no end that tire manufacturers make the same brand and model of tire and then have different versions of them that are not clearly discernible..

coronado 54 how has the miles/kwh been with the pirelli p7s compared to ecopias? i am considering those too.

The regular Ecopia tire does not have a mileage warranty (only 30 day trial warranty). https://www.bridgestonetire.com/tire/ecopia-ep422-eco
Whereas the Ecopia Plus has a 70k mile limited treadwear warranty. https://www.bridgestonetire.com/tire/ecopia-ep422-eco For the few extra dollars, the warranty is worth it - cheap insurance on the tires.

Just keep in mind that a tire mileage warranty just means that Bridgestone will give you a pro-rated discount if you buy a new set of Bridgestone tires to replace the prematurely-worn Ecopias. And, it requires that all tires are wearing evenly. It beats a kick to the face, but you'll probably get a better deal by waiting for a sale.

So many topics in this forum so I could not find what I am looking for. My Leaf has about 26,000 miles and my tires are almost worn out. These are the stock Bridgestone Ecopia tires so I do not want to replace them with the same type. ...

FWIW, there seems to be some consensus that if you buy Ecopia replacement tires, they will provide better tread-wear than the OEM stock tires.

The non OEM is a better tire in general. The retail Ecopia is a actually a decent LRR tire and THE most efficient tire for the LEAF, anyone suggestion other tires are comparable on efficiency are in efficiency denial, this is well documented. All the Michelins take an efficiency hit regardless of the tire, some more significant.

Maybe if you stick to the OEM 16" size or 17" size and don't look at other options.

Absolute efficiency get the Energy Saver A/S - Size: 195/65R15 or Ecopia EP422 Plus 195/65/15 with the lowest weight 15" wheels you can find. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Michelin&tireModel=Energy+Saver+A%2FS&sidewall=Blackwall&partnum=965TR5ESASV2&tab=Specs or https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Bridgestone&tireModel=Ecopia+EP422+Plus+%28H-+or+V-Speed+Rated%29&sidewall=Blackwall&partnum=965HR5EP422PL&tab=Specs

To go all the way you buy Honda Civic Hybrid wheels and machine out the inner bore by 2mm to make them fit the Nissan like https://imgur.com/ILKqfQL

Even at the 16" OEM wheel I'd want to see numbers for Energy Saver A/S 205/55/16 vs the retail Ecopia 422 205/55/16 and Ecopia 422 Plus 205/55/16. If the Ecopia in either trim is more efficient than the Energy Saver A/S I'd be surprised.

Still, knowing the Ecopia 422 Plus is available for the 15" wheel makes it an option if it is cheaper than the Energy Saver A/S. The last time I went with a cheaper tire of the Dunlop Enasave A/S https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Dunlop&tireModel=Enasave+01+A%2FS&partnum=965SR5ES01AS but I don't think it is worth recommending because the tread life isn't as good as the Michelin Energy Saver A/S.

Still, I've tried the other two, I might as well try the Ecopia 422 Plus next. It might be a year or so until I do. Haven't worn out the tires I'm on now.

Interesting, I never noticed they are on sale at Costco, I need to pay more attention.

I just went to do a tire rotation (I do it every 5 - 6k miles), and was told that my rear tires have way more wear than the front (rear 80%, front 40%), physically looking at them confirmed it. I checked my record and could only find one tire rotation record during the past 10k miles, so I suspect that I forgot one tire rotation, and the last time people didn't really rotate my tires! If my tires did get rotated, are there anything that can cause the rear tires to wear faster than fronts on the LEAF?

No, the fronts always wear faster. Most likely, the tires were rotated recently, but it was a long time before *that* rotation before they had been rotated.

Not all Costco's stock them so you may have to order them but its always $70 on a set

I would strongly recommend getting a good 4 wheel alignment if you are going to put new tires on or if you see unusual wear.

It's my understanding that the Leaf can't have the rear wheels aligned, at least not in the usual way.

I am not sure about the back end. I just know my front's wore like crazy and two different Nissan dealers said the alignment was fine. After my warranty was up I took it to another shop and he said he couldn't believe how far out of alignment it was, he said it was set to "snow plow". He also said it wasn't a curb hit or if it was it had been like that for a long time. It wasn't pulling at all. He did say the back was out a little and he adjusted that as well, he said something about unbolting and bolting for the rear. All I know is the car feels "tight" again steering wise and we added about .2 miles per kw. Time will tell how the tires wear.

I just regret not having a proper alignment done sooner or trusting the Nissan garage that the alignment as "ok", it wasn't.

Honestly I do believe it was like this from the start and that is one of the reason I wore the stock ecopias out in 15k and my snows in 15k. So maybe the tires are not that bad, honestly it is probably a combination of the tires and the alignment.

And even the OEM Ecopia "Plus" as fitted to the VW eGolf is pretty good too. After 20k miles, mine are in better shape than the ones on my Leaf at the same mileage.

Nissan really cheaped out with the specs of their tire, not helped by the low recommended tire pressure (VW recommends 41 psi).

I saw the question but didn't find a definitive answer... anyone have experience going from the /55 aspect ratio Ecopia to the /60? My speedometer reads 3 mph too high when compared to GPS. Running the /60 just may bring the speedo into accuracy. The slightly increased overall wheel diameter will cause the car to travel somewhat faster for the same wheel rpm.

I have to make a decision asap as I chewed up a tire last night and it's about time to spring for a new set. 2013 Leaf SV. Thanks!
