I am glad I got that out of my system. A trip out to the summer camp (51.4 miles), a bit of house hunting (16.8 miles), commuting to work (32.0 miles) and a bit of cruising the neighborhood (24.2 mile) and you get 200.3 km on a charge. Nice to see what the LBW and VLBW look/act like. Didn't turtle and I don't plan to ever get close again. Now it's back to my hum drum 80% to 45% commuting cycle.

Yesterday I drove 122 miles at a 7.0 mpk average. I did start at ~500 ft elevation, but I was at sea level in just a few miles. I tried to maintain 30 mph, but in practice it was closer to 27-28, and the dash says an average speed of 24.9. Leafbatt screenshots and dash photos are here.

Over the five hours of my journey, outdoor air temps rose from 52 to 58 under overcast skies in Seattle. I used no climate control or headlights – not even my seat heaters. I’m glad I did it early in the morning with light traffic as I was constantly watching my power meter and trying to keep my load to just one pixel.

I planned to hit turtle within a half mile of Younker Nissan’s QC (THANKS NISSAN!), but the plans didn’t work out as intended. Turtle came on when I was two large blocks away and I thought I was golden. When I got there, an ICE was in the QC spot (it was a customer’s car and the spot was only labeled
“customer”, so understandable) so I parked next to it thinking to move over when it came open.

Unfortunately, my Leaf took a full stop as an excuse to power down, leaving me unable to drive the one parking space to the QC! The sales manager was happy to let me charge and we stretched the L2 cord far enough to start charging. By the time the customer left, I still didn’t have enough charge to move, so they helped me push my car over to the QC. I charged up to 9 bars before I ran into my next appointment and had to leave.

I kept a Leafbatt log and I want to upload it. Can anyone suggest a free site or instructions on how to upload it directly to the board?

Not bad for a two year old pack with only 91.7% CAP!

Congratulations, not bad. When I drove 151 miles on one charge, my car was only at 89% capacity.

Given how hard I worked to get my 7.0, I am truely amazed that you got over 8.

Yeah, but the first 101 miles was during an Efficiency Rally so I had a big yellow sign on the back that allowed me to keep the Power circles to zero-1 while accelerating which besides coasting, is the key to high efficiency. Not many hit 7, so you can be proud of that achievement.

Tony, Are you the keeper of the official list? Do I qualify for #50?

I was waiting for a confirmation on a guy up thread who claimed "100 miles" but I sense that he didn't actually drive that far. It's easy for newbies to see 100 on the GOM and assume they could drive that far.

I'll send him a PM asking for clarification.

I am pleased to make the first multiple award to the following five honorees. They have each exemplified the highest honor and tradition in the 100 Mile Club and/or 200 km Club, and I do hereby bequeath upon each of them the title of:

Mr. 50-oceanspray (1 time)
Mr. 51-dudley (1 time)
Mr. 52-phillipcoggins (1 time** also 200km Club!!!)
Mr. 53-yogi62 (1 time** also 200km Club!!!)
Mr. 54-FairwoodRed (1 time)

LEAFfan, your total is very impressive. I have also noticed, that if I can stay at the 0 power circle, which is very slow acceleration, that you seem to get max efficiency. How did you minimize your stops during the run?

Tony, What evidence do you need for the 120 Mile club? Is a few shot of the dash at intervals over the drive sufficient?

Just explain what you did. Pics are great. Generally, I can sniff out the "not quite there" posts. Usually it's somebody new who is all excited that their GOM shows 100 miles or more.

But, let's throw down the gauntlet this summer!!!! We need more members here:

200 kilometer (124.3 miles) Club

1 - Edmonds.com (1 time)

2 - N1ghtrider (3 time...first forum participant)

3 - LEAFfan (1 time) and current highest mileage record holder

4 - TNleaf (1 time)

5 - phillipcoggins (1 time)

6 - yogi62 (1 time)

Thanks, I've been hypermiling since 1981. The most important besides keeping the Pwr circles at zero when accelerating is coasting in N, not feathering the pedal. If you look 3/4 mile ahead (our main ones are all 1 mile apart) you should be able to see and anticipate the light change. I usually coast about 1/4 to 1/2 mile before stops. I lose very little speed with the tires at 44 psi. Btw, I plan on breaking my 151 mile record on one charge soon.

I think it's 180-ish miles in Japan, but I don't know if it was downhill. Wait for a brutish hot day for maximum battery energy and thinnest air. 15mph and twelve hours should get 180 miles on your new car. I'd pump the tires to an insanity pressure at such low speed. Rolling resistance is a huge part of all the drag at low speeds.

I'd put tape over anything that can move air... the gaps around hood, the bump at the top of the windshield, etc. If you can lower the car, that would probably help. Cardboard wheel covers that are duct taped on.

Remember to hydrate. I'd recommend the motorcycle "cool" jackets or an air chest with ice and a battery operated fan. Or both.

Get all the weight out. Owners manuals, heavy tire sealer, lug wrench, tool kit, etc.

Make it a round trip so that nobody is accusing you of elevation gain or favorable winds. Have fun and good luck.

Those are all good ideas, but none of those will be necessary. I'm not driving it all in one day like last time. But I may go 50psi this time instead of 44.

It looks like we might have the first candidate from OZ:

I finally did it!!! I really wanted to see how long those last two bars would last. I started at 4pm sat with 100% per dash reading. I have no fancy meters or anything, so actual capacity is any ones guess. Once I hit 100 miles I floored it back to the house and after 2 miles the last bar extinguished and very low batt warn chimed. All day and evening I was pretty conservative with the throttle. Most of the driving was in center circle or +1. There were a few pegged circle outbursts. :) I tend to make it a game of how much I cant make the GOM rebound. I drove somewhat aimlessly the last couple hours to see if I could at least hit the hundred mark. Notice the time? Drove into town to visit my folks. Went out to dinner and the casino. Left 20 cents ahead and 2 cups of sprite. :D It was a fun evening and my wife supported my trek the whole evening without one complaint of boredom. At 100 I had a bar and flashing 6 on the GOM. would have been interesting to see how much further I could have gone without flooring it back home, but I was tired. The 4.0 economy was 3.2 when I got the car. It had 5500 miles.

great job! for future reference, you should reset your miles/kwh meter as well

The meter to reset that Dave is referring to is the economy gauge. Use the four button quadrant to the left of the steering wheel, and while the miles/kWh economy is displayed, push and hold the button with a solid circle on it.

I've never reset as the first owner was only able to muster up 3.2 for the first 5500 miles. Probably why they traded it off. I've been building on that as a lifetime reading for the car. Thanks for the info on resetting though. I knew it could be done, just wasn't sure. I normally reset the carwings, but did not as I had no plans of making a 100 mile journey.

I reset mine daily to another guide for how well I am doing. over time you will be able to predict within reasonability how well you will do and this can be a clue of possible problems when the #'s are much lower than you expect like losing air pressure, alignment issues, etc.

it can also loosely give you an idea of your useable battery capacity if you take miles driven/ miles/kwh figure it will give you an idea of how many Kwh you burned (burned?? need a better term. the connotation is a bit inappropriate. )
