Maybe this is already done, and if not, could be interpreted more as a suggestion for Blink or google or the like, but I am thinking it would be good to have a mapping software/function which would help direct EV drivers to alternative routes that might use less energy. I'm thinking, for example, of the learning curve most of us have discussed of finding alternatives to the highway systems in our areas, and so-on. Of course, many times one might opt for the higher-energy option, but for when you want to conserve energy, it would be cool to have a mapping function for that, perhaps with estimated energy use listed for each alternate route.

As mentioned, maybe this is already done, or maybe really a suggestion for other companies, but mentioning it here.

The CARWINGS web site has an "energy aware" route planner in beta now. It uses real data from LEAFs on the road now.

Thanks, I'm sorry for my ignorance, but I can't find any carwings website. Are you referring to the carwings phone app? I'll look for it there once it's out of Beta. Or perhaps you are referring to an actual website? The only one I see is here:

http://drive.nissan-carwings.com/WEB/index.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

which is in Japanese and which I got from wikipedia as the only website they reference for carwings:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CarWings" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If it's up and running, use http://www.nissanusa.com/owners/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; to get to it in the USA.

There is also a redirect to this from the main Nissan Owner's Portal: https://owners.nissanusa.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks, the URL seems to be here, don't know if it can be launched stand-alone:

https://zeroemission.nissan-carwings.com/aqPortal/content/country/default/jsp/top_post_login.iface" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I unfortunately went to this one first which talked me into re-registering my account. When I went to the other one, I found that the original account seemed to work. Noting this here so others don't go through the same slight hassle.

I've seen such a system on the factory navigation system of a brand new Toyota Yaris. To find the best route, the system proposed me 3 choices: fastest, shortest distance, or ecological. That last one avoided fast highways and the busiest areas so I could drive at a constant moderate speed. There's nothing great about it.
