Everyone makes their chioces, dealers and buyers. But after telling the dealer (different one) that North Bay was offering 5% off, I offered to split the difference, 2.5% off to keep the business local. The offer was not accepted. Does not seem like good business to me. I am not trying to nickel and dime, and MSRP is great for a car in such high demand. But personally speaking, it would be "bad business" for me to pay an extra ~$1700.

Why would you go with anyone except North Bay Nissan and get 5%
The Bay Area is a big place, and North Bay Nissan is so far north it barely qualifies as Bay Area. I'm so far south that it would be a 105 mile trip each way for me. Sorry, I want a dealer I can have a continuing relationship with.

There's another point, too, perhaps related. The last two years have been really rough for auto dealers (not that it's been easy for a lot of the rest of us). I think they deserve to be able to make a reasonable profit on the LEAF. My own conclusion is that Nissan's MSRP is reasonable once tax credits and possible rebates have been allowed for. I wouldn't want my dealer to be a price gouger, but I don't begrudge them MSRP, especially considering the extra equipment and training they will need for the LEAF. Who knows, if they make a decent profit now, that might increase their chances of being around five or ten years from now.

I'm not rich, but I'm on a guaranteed retirement income so I'm a lot better off than many. A dealer I respect who sells at MSRP is good enough for me.

I highly recommend this amazing ted talk to anyone thinking that driving 80 miles is not worth saving $800 (for the ones getting 1k bellow MSRP), or $1,800 for the ones who will go with MSRP).
And your local dealer will be happy to do the maintenance on your car, no matter where you buy it.

edit : it's a fairly long one, so if you're in a rush, jump to 15:15 (but I highly recommend the whole thing ;) )

I didn't even consider trying to negotiate less than MSRP until I got here and saw lots of folks in CA getting discounts... I was just happy to find a dealer who wasn't charging a markup.

I saw a couple orders in Washington in this thread, but not a single one in Oregon. I can't be the first (in fact the dealer told me he had 3 already). Where are you, PDXers?

My order date isn't until October, but today I stopped by Tustin Nissan to speak with Dorie, the Leaf Specialist there. Dorie is very mellow, a pleasure to do business with. I am changing my order back to Tustin Nissan, as I have been a customer there for three years and always received excellent service.

MSRP including dest and handling = $36,055 - $1,000 discount = $35,055 + tax and license. Fontana Nissan. I live in Orange County, CA. Had Costa Mesa Nissan as a preferred dealer initially and Fontana listed as having permission to call. Fontana Nissan called, Costa Mesa did not, so I figured the more proactive dealership could get my business.

$35,055 transaction price
this price includes:

* Nissan LEAF™ SL trim
* cayenne red
* 1 option (quick charge port)
* 5 accessories (flor mats and a few other I don't remember)

Thanks leaf2010 for summarizing. It's interesting data. I wish more south bay buyers had been able to travel up to North Bay Nissan Petaluma to break the bay area zone pricing, but they must of had very good reasons for selecting Sunnyvale. I choose Connell Nissan in Costa Mesa. I figured they would get their fair share, but they appear to have done very well. Like others, Connell offered $1000 off MSRP and clearly that brought a lot of busines. But as I thought about it, another reason for their success is likely due to the size of the market they can reach in a 100 mile radius from their dealership, all of LA and most of SD.

Pricing?

Hello EVDRIVER,

I have discussed pricing with 2 reps there. They are unable to provide any details until you provide an order confirmation. My order is for a November wave.

My initial plan is to go to Premier with the competitive 5% off offered by North Bay. I am interested in pooling a number of November offers to further make the deal with Premier, so if anyone in the November wave is interested, pls post up in the SF Bay Are Group Buy thread.

If they do not budge, I will order from North Bay. On the pickup day, my wife will drive us up and we'll drive back home together. She'll be driving behind me as the backup vehicle in case we have any issues on the way home.

Hi mxp,

Hope you have a better experience with Premier than I did. I did have an open order (Sep 1) and they were unwilling to discuss anything below MSRP. The rep I spoke to was very rude, seemed to think they were doing me a favor at offering MSRP. But if enough people reject the offers, maybe South Bay dealers will figure it out and change there approach. Good luck.

I think your MSRP is not correct - you have probably not added the list prices of accessories.
