Looks great.

I received my kit today - plastic Honey Burl (SHBW). Looks REALLY good. I'll post pictures as soon as I get it installed . The color is between the two on this thread. WARNING - do not purchase without first getting the sample kit - they do not look the same as the web page colors.

Here are the pics of my Remin synthetic wood dash. I chose the Honey Burl “SHBW” as it has black highlights which tied into the black Leaf dash accessory/knob colors. Note that the actual color is very different than that shown on the CarID website: http://www.carid.com/2012-nissan-leaf-wood-grain-dash-kits/item-312871.html

I strongly suggest ordering the sample kit for $5 (you choose 4 samples) before you purchase.

The installation was considerably more difficult and took longer than we expected with 2 people working on it. We are now experts and are available to help people in the San Diego area install the kit (negotiable).

Looks great! What was makes the install difficult? I'm probably going to have to do it solo, and I want to know what I'm in for :) .

To make sure things lined up when there are multiple holes we would first line up the top with a small amount of the sticky surface uncovered. Then one of us would hold the piece in place while the other removed more of the protector and repeated this down the piece. However, the hardest part was actually the small pieces on the steering wheel as lining up multiple holes on a small piece proved challenging.

What makes the wood sheet curve over the edges, and fit the compound curves on the corners?

I used the synthetic rather than the real wood which is also available. The pieces are flexible to an extent allowing you to fit them to curved surfaces. I believe that the real wood shown in the pics from our Seattle friend are thin enough to be bent as well.

OK, bending takes the material over a rounded edge,
but there is "extra material" at rounded corners.

So, how are the compound corners handled?

You may have noticed that the piece around the shift knob has a split near the dash. We couldn't understand why until I realized that the shift console has a compound surface. So the only way to get it to lie properly was to have the split. We had to move the long piece above the glove box down just far enough to not interfere with opening and to avoid the curved edge on the top line as the top edge of the piece was too thick to curve to the panel edge and would stick out. As for the rest of the pieces they are flexible enough to lie on the curved surfaces. The pieces with multiple holes like the dash center were so flexible as to be floppy and it took 2 of us, my wife and I, to keep them lined up.

The "extra" material at the bottom is a black stratum that the colored plastic lies on. We ordered 2 sets of samples before making our decision. The one we chose, SHBW, has the thickest black substrate of all the plastic samples we received (others: SJCW, SMBW, SBEW), but they are all thin to the eye. The SHBW worked well with the most visible pieces as it blends with the Leaf's black console plastic and the black in the plastic pattern tied to the black features in the Leaf helping it to look like a Leaf design with factory installation. The real wood pieces we received (RMBW, RRW, RPW) do not have this black strata- just wood and the 3M glue surface.

We attended the SD International Auto show yesterday and looked at the wood in the Mercedes and Lexus, which have gone very dark this model year. We came away feeling real good about how our Leaf compared now having a much richer and softer feel than black plastic.
I'll have the car at the S.D. Leaf meeting in Poway Jan. 7th, so if you’re interested you can see it there.

Leather is next!

I ordered some samples in early December, thanks to this thread. Most of them were too dark for me, although I did like the Real Platinum Burl Wood (RPW) color. It was priced at $243 and I had a coupon worth $25 off (yes25). The total was $218 and shipping was free. I placed an order after Christmas and finished the installation today. It took about 2.5 hours...

They ship the parts on two very sticky pieces of cardboard. While that substrate protects the pieces during shipping, it is a real bear to get some of the pieces off. I had the best success by turning the wood pieces face down and peeling the cardboard while holding down the rear of the wood piece.

The installation is easy for some pieces and more tedious for others. Most of the pieces are sized pretty well to fit. For me, the biggest challenge was with the three pieces that join together by the passenger vent and above the glove box...I think it adds a great look to the interior of the LEAF...

Here are some photos...

Once you get the piece off the shipping-board, is the sticky-side if the piece exposed so that if it touches anything ... it IS STUCK?

Or, is there still a non-sticky, peel-off layer over the stickey-side of the piece, allowing the piece to be positioned, moved around, and taped in place so that it will not move around while removing the non-stick backing?

How difficult would this be to remove and return to original appearance if the dealer objects at the end of the lease, or if I simply end up doing a sloppy job of it?

I had to remove the large piece over the glove compartment 4 times to get it right - including one time a week after installation. There was no effect on the original surface.

i wonder if applying these "wet" would be easier...basically apply like vinyl letters and graphics...spray the applique with distilled water containIng a drop of liquid detergent...than it will slide arround giving you time to center arround all the holes...then squegge out as much water as you can taking care not to move it and allow to dry overnight...I bet something like 20 min and being able to do one handed and a lot less stress I ordered a kit and will report back with wet technique...sinc kp couch

Good news, thanks! 5 tries is pretty generous.

Dang, nice choice. That perforated leather looks great too! Very professional!

The wood trim gives the car a luxery look to it..If anyone else is going to do it with the blue center console, you may want to think about painting it gray or black..

I wanted more of a sporty look and went with the carbon fiber..Im going to take out the center console and cover it entirely with CF before adding that finale piece....
