The School House parking lot has 2 Clipper Creek and two double NEMA 5-20, 120v outlets. There are two EV parking spots there. You need to go two levels down then back up to the first level to get to them (Northwest corner). First 90 minutes parking is free, after that $2 per hour with a $6 maximum. Late night entry is a flat fee.

There is one ChargePoint J1772 EVSE in each of the 2 underground garages located at an apartment (condo) complex. Does not seem to be a fee to park. Posted fee for using the EVSEs is $3/hour. They are operated by Carcharging Inc.

1) Enter on West side of De Lacey Street just North of Del Mar. Turn right at bottom of the ramp. Continue to the right.
2) Enter on South side of Valley Street mid block (between De Lacey & South Pasadena Ave). Turn left at the bottom of the ramp then right to the far corner.

Sylmar
Metro in Sylmar. 2 Eaton units and there's a small grey on-off box on the left side of each one to turn them off. Free. (JasonA)

I just spent a day in Old Pasadena. There is an additional EVSE in the One Colorado parking structure on floor B2, east end (AVCON). Look for all my updates for that area on the usual EVSE apps...

An update (via e-mail) from the "Director of PR & Destination Marketing" for Oldtown Pasadena:

The City of Pasadena has applied for grants to upgrade the chargers in City-owned garages. We know that this application has been made but do not have details about the timing.

Currently none of the garages charge for "charging" and we do not know of the City's future plans to implement fees at this time. The De Lacey garage currently has 3 "legacy" outlets located on ground level adjacent to the handicapped area, and the Schoolhouse garage has (1) outlet on B1 and another (1) on B2.

I hope that this information is helpful. Thank you for your interest in Old Pasadena.

$3 per hour, good luck with that.
That's only for the units in that condo/apartment complex south of Old Pasadena. :( For multiple hours of L2 charging, I really don't want to pay above about $1 per hour. Otherwise, with only a 3.3kW charger, it starts to be more economical to pay for gasoline for a Prius. I expressed this to the City of Pasadena, and encouraged them to keep their price of charging (if any) reasonable.

In the City garages, there is no charge for the first 90 min., and then you're only paying the regular parking fee after that. I thanked the city for helping to encourage electric vehicle adoption.

The Chargepoint stations at Caltech are now on the Chargpoint map, and they are no longer free. $2/hr, $1 minimum, 4-hour maximum. The location I used is the South parking structure on Wilson Ave., South end, lowest level. PCC at $1.25/hr now looks more like a bargain. I stayed with my car for 32 minutes of charge and was billed $1.05.

$2/hr at 3.8kW is $.53/kWh. The price will be higher if you leave your car connected after your charging is done.

I am told Chargepoint stations cost $6K for the first (networked master) unit, and $5K for a second unit, for a total of $11K plus wiring and installation and a monthly charge. Compare that to a Clipper Creek unit that can charge two vehicles at once, for $2.2K + wiring and installation, with no monthly fee. The Clipper Creek units are simple, but robust, with no facility for charging the customer, so they will always be free.

It seems very unlikely that even a $2/hr fee could ever recover the nearly $9K difference in price between Chargepoint and Clipper Creek. I suggest when we advocate for charging dock installations we point this out.

For anyone using AVCON:

The connector of the Avcon unit in the School House parking lot has been damaged. You need to manually release the shutter in the receiver to connect.

At CalTech:

Lot 2: 3 spaces, 2 Chargepoint J1772, 1 Nema 5-15
405 S Wilson Ave
Pasadena, California, 91106
Straight on entering on left. Parking permit station in Lot 1 (next building North).

Lot 4: 1 space, 1 Chargepoint J1772
370 S Holliston Ave
Pasadena, California, 91106
Go left on entering, half story down on right. Parking permit station on Level 3.

Charging fee: $2/hour ($1 minimum)
Parking Fee:
1 hour permit: $2
2 hour permit: $3
3 hour permit: $4
4 hour permit: $5
All day permit: $6
Weekly permit: $18

Last April, I contacted Old Town Pasadena Management requesting the installation of J1772 charging stations. This week I renewed the request. Their answer is below.

The City is eligible for grant funding to replace/upgrade the existing chargers and infrastructure. In order to best capitalize on volume discounts as well as maintaining consistency of equipment throughout the City, it is best not to replace the chargers in the Old Pas garages at this time.

In addition, I believe the City indicated that they are looking at some time this July for installation.

Has anyone tried charging at the AeroVironment offices in Monrovia? Their corporate office (http://www.plugshare.com?charger=2777" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) is a few blocks from Trader Joe's and a bunch of other stores. It might be a nice place for us to "top off" on occasional weekends.

I posted details on carstations, recargo and plugshare about these Glendale sites:

-Glendale Nissan. They were very friendly and helpful. Were willing to move a car so I could charge.

-Glendale Civic Center parking off of East Wilson.

Please post details on the sites above if you use any of these in Burbank:

In the alley next to Sport Chalet off East Cypress

120 and 133 East Orange Grove Ave, Burbank, CA, , 91502 AMC Parking Structures

241 East Orange Grove Ave, Burbank, CA, , 91502 City Parking Structure

Burbank Public Works - Community Development, 333 E. Olive Ave. Burbank, CA 91502

Know of any others?

The shopping center at the corner of Oak and Pass Avenues in Burbank now has two chargepoint chargers. Below is a google earth screenshot.

All of the East Orange grove chargers are powered up and usable, free till June, then I hear $2 an hour is what they are thinking about.

The E.Olive Ave may not be usable, it is an old location that ICE city vehicles often park in. Will try to look in on it tomorrow.

Sorry, I don't use a cell phone so I won't be adding these to any Apps, but here is a google earth shot showing all of the downtown Burbank charger locations circled in Black.

Which site would the majority like to use to find charging locations? I would like to put a list on the first post of this thread with each location and its link.

The recargo, carstations and plugshare are the usual suspects. Please weigh in.

I've been primarily using PlugShare. (I really like the idea of encouraging individuals/families to share their charging docks and outlets.)

As observed by skobay ,here, some of the Burbank Town Center stations are now showing "Reservation Only" on the ChargePoint website. This indicates they are not available for drive up charging. You can make a no cost reservation from the smart phone application. Reservations are in 15 minute increments and you cannot reserve prior to current time. (If you arrive at 3:01 you can reserve as soon as 3:15, but not before). You need to have a balance on your ChargePoint account, and accept "free and paid" charge locations to reserve. Reservation end time is also in 15 minute increments. Good news, you know you have a charge waiting for you. Bad news, no penalty (yet) to bogart a charger.

Well that stinks for those of us that have no cell phone.

The android app would not make a reservation (fails "Cost Estimate" step). I was able to make a reservation from the website, but you must have a card, an account, and "Free and Paid" enabled with a positive balance on your account. And the charge stops at the end of your reservation and cannot be restarted without making a new reservation. I was able to start charging before my reservation time (10 minutes), but could not activate the other charger at this site as no reservation. And finally the locations on Chargepoint (120 and 133 Orange Grove) are reversed on the map (reversed GPS locations) be sure to watch the scrolling ID on the display to be sure you have the correct charger.
