I just opened up the ez go app and it asked me "Did you get our card yet? Would you like to activate the card?" No. I don't have the card yet and I don't think I have time to wait for it. Can I use the app?

Yes. I've used their app to start session many times. https://www.evgo.com/ev-drivers/how-to-charge-your-ev/ even talks about it.

They also support partner roaming w/ChargePoint. A ChargePoint card or app should work too. I've encountered someone who used one of those on CP to charge on EVgo.

If you plan to spend at least $7.99 on EVgo within a month, better to get a membership (https://www.evgo.com/pricing/). When I last tried, basically, you get charged the membership price. When you charge, it credits you back the amount you spent each time, until you hit $7.99. Basically, your first $7.99 of charging is included in that $7.99 you pay upfront. It's the per minute rate afterward.

I’ve used the app at both EVGO and ChargePoint locations. My new Leaf came with $250 EVGO credit which I have a year to use up.

I’ve had a couple of occasions when the app would not work for me - once when I was in a remote location with no T-mobile service. Having the card was essential then.

There is an option in the menus for the app to order a card if you don’t have one. You then have to use the app to activate it upon receipt
