Hi folks, im new to the forum.

Ive never owned an EV although I am keen to pick one up. Due to an unexpected im thinking of expediting the process!

Ive come across a 2016 30kwh Leaf for sale. Its on 92k miles. Its been through mots since february 2017 and the mileage, while high, appears consistent. Its advertised for $8500 which is obviously pretty low for the 30kwh model.

Is this an unwise purchase? Ive been told the SOH is 85% but havent done much digging yet. Is there anything to watch out for with higher mileage examples? I wouldn't be looking to get anything with really low mileage but wondering if this is best to be avoided.

For what its worth, my commute is 17 miles each way, almost exclusively motorway and I do have off road parking.

Thanks in advance!

I personally would not worry about higher mileage, as I also purchased a higher mileage LEAF at a discount. The health of the battery pack is paramount, and that's primarily dictated by age, climate, and to a lesser extent the charging behavior of the previous owner. Mileage really is irrelevant with respect to battery pack health. If the SOH really is 85%, that's decent...

The 30kWh packs in the 2016/2017 model years are a little suspect, but you're probably safe with this purchase if you don't live in a hot climate.

Are you actually in Santa Clara? We don't have "mots" in the US and we don't use the term motorway (it's not American English parlance)...

In CA, where we have a city of Santa Clara, we don't even have any state mandated (safety) inspections. We do have smog checks but those are n/a for EVs.

I suspect the OP's a spammer.

I found almost the same text at https://www.speakev.com/threads/high-mileage-30kwh-leaf.150806/. Their post at https://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=31140 is suspicious.

Good catch. As I wrote in the other topic, this won't let spammers in - we still have to approve the first several posts, and once the pattern is set...

Yeah, as I said... I find it semi-amusing that on other forums, sometimes people talk about their state's mandatory inspection. We don't have that in CA nor did we have that in WA. It's just smog checks.

It looks like how old a car is to be required to have CA smog checks has changed. https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/?1dmy&urile=wcm:path:/dmv_content_en/dmv/vr/smogfaq says "Owners of vehicles eight or less model years old will pay an annual smog abatement fee for the first eight registration years instead of being required to provide a biennial smog certification." https://web.archive.org/web/20150910155309/https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/detail/vr/smogfaq/!ut/p/a0/04_Sj9CPykssy0xPLMnMz0vMAfGjzOK9PV1cDT3cDbzdTX0cDRy9PTz8w1zDjNwtjfWDU_P0C7IdFQHd_DMC/ helped refresh my memory as I swore it was six before. My former Prius was exempt from CA smog checks for ages as hybrids were exempt for a very long time. It had something to do w/not having the proper equipment to wrong smog checks.

I'm on the fence about locking this topic vs. deleting. That said, if we go to deletion, I'm ok w/my post going away w/the rest of the thread.

Next thing you know, they'll be running posts through a couple cycles of Google Translate to throw off the search comparisons.
