2020 CA HOV stickers

Wed Dec 25, 2019 7:41 pm

https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/detai ... 19/2019_68 confirms the stickers issued in 2020 will be orange.

Also, this program for low income folks goes into effect.
Clean Air Vehicle Decals for Low-Income Californians (SB 957, Lara – 2018): Allows certain used vehicles that were previously issued a green or white clean air vehicle decal to receive another clean air vehicle decal, granting access to high occupancy vehicle lanes until January 1, 2024. To qualify, the vehicle must have a new owner whose income is 80 percent or less than the statewide medium income.

Thanks for that. I checked the HOV web page a few days ago and there was no info on what the new color would be - checking it now, there still isn't: https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/?1dmy ... v/vr/decal

They're just about out of available colors. Using the resistor color code chart as a guide, Black, Brown, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Violet, Gray, White, I assume that Black and Brown are probably not options due to difficulty seeing them, so that leaves just Blue and Gray unused. Maybe they hope they can phase the program out before they have to start repeating, which would undoubtedly be a hassle for CHP.

I wasn't sure if they were going to extend the program or not, although canceling it seemed unlikely given the current political climate. Although I'm still not a fan of the program as it encourages exactly the behavior that causes congestion (both generally and now in the HOV lanes) in the first place, It's good that they're going to let people who can't afford new Teslas and similar high-priced PEVs benefit from the HOV stickers now, as they probably have to commute further given high housing prices in the major metro areas. We really need to get away from "Tesla Lanes".
Guy [I have lots of experience designing/selling off-grid AE systems, some using EVs but don't own one. Local trips are by foot, bike and/or rapid transit].

The 'best' is the enemy of 'good enough'. Copper shot, not Silver bullets.

https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/?1dmy ... v/vr/decal now includes orange.

It also talks about this:
Low-Income (IB) Clean Air Vehicle (CAV) Decal Program
The Low-Income (IB) Clean Air Vehicle (CAV) decal program may allow a new vehicle owner of a used vehicle that was previously issued a CAV decal prior to January 1, 2017, to be issued a CAV decal, valid until January 1, 2024, if the new owner meets the following criteria:

The new, current registered owner is NOT the owner of the vehicle when the decals issued prior to January 2017, expired;
The applicant’s total annual household income is at or below $65,777 (this amount is subject to change).
Total Annual Household Income requires the disclosure of the annual income of all members of the household, age 17 and older, who reside together and share common living expenses regardless if they are related.
The new registered owner name(s) matches DMV records.

See the Income-Based Clean Air Vehicle Decal Program (REG 1000 IB) form for additional information.
https://ww2.arb.ca.gov/resources/fact-s ... icle-decal also talks about orange and the low income program.
