Have you thought about a tow hitch bike rack instead? I use one on my Prius and much prefer it over all other ways I have carried my bikes.

One alternative to installing a rack, is to buy a folding bike and then just put it in the back of the car.
I have used a Montague folding bike for years and it fits into the Leaf easily.

I haven't tried it myself, but a fellow Leaf owner/avid cyclist says his bike fits in the Leaf fine with the rear seat folded forward.

I ride a cyclocross and mountain bikes. Both fit in the back with no problem. I just put a cover down to keep the car from getting dirty. I also remove the front wheel.
