I've recently noticed a sudden loss of estimated range on my 2015 24kWh Leaf so I had a look at the health stats on LeafSpy and none seem to have had a corresponding change.

One thing that I have noticed is that my total charge available and SoH don't seem to add up, so I was hoping someone could explain what's going on for me.

The dash still has 12 battery health bars and LeafSpy currently reports SOH as 87.3%. However, LeafSpy also reports that the currently on 42.8% charge with just 7.1kWh remaining. Unless I've misunderstood, that means LeafSpy implies that at 100% charge I would have ~16.6kWh available.

That seems really low to me...and implies something closer to 70% SoH, even if you take into account some reserve at the top and bottom of the battery.

Can anyone explain if this is normal for LeafSpy? My confusion is that the dashboard rangefinder seems to roughly agree with LeafSpy even though both health indicators suggest I should have more range available. Thanks for any advice!

You won't lose your 1st capacity bar until SOH probably around 83 to 85ish%. https://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=511915#p511915 was when I lost my 1st capacity bar. Back then, Leaf Spy only showed whole numbers for SOH.

https://web.archive.org/web/20170825181222/http://www.electricvehiclewiki.com/Battery#Battery_Capacity_Behavior is a mapping of capacity bars vs. remaining capacity from the '11 service manual. The table went away for unknown reasons in service manuals of later years.

IIRC, 24 kWh Leaf only has about 21 or 22 kWh user accessible on a new battery due to buffers at the top and bottom.

I also wouldn't bother with how many kWh remain in Leaf Spy due to https://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=546803#p546803. The default setting of 77.5 watt-hours per gid may not be accurate, esp. since it appears that not all gids are created equal.

Thanks very much for summarising this for me - I thought I'd had a good look through the rest of the forum before posting...but obviously not!
