Clearly the Porsche doesn't belong there. But what about the Tesla? Sure it's an EV, but I don't see that it's charging. So should an EV driver of any stripe take an EV only spot if all he needs to do is park? This is one thing that AB475 may actually help with. And, even if you are charging, should one vacate an EV spot (alternative parking and the ability to return to your vehicle permitting) once you're done charging? I say yes.

Edit: Added "and the ability to return to your vehicle"

Never enough charging stations, but some may plug just to use parking space. How to enforce pluged but not charging always can say just finished charging

L3 stations would solve this. Charge, go and park wherever you want! We need to keep our eye on the (real) ball folks.

Yes just as I said in the AB475 thread. These spaces should be utilized for charging not preferred parking. When fully charged the car should be moved as a courtesy if reasonably possible but not cited ot towed.

JMHO

Good luck enforcing that. The EVSE needs to have a countdown timer up that shows how long its' been since charging started. Perhaps give them a 1 hour buffer. But in some situations (shopping malls) you'll still have people using these as reserved parking instead of charging stations they need to use.

heck, at least the Porsche has no connection to Nissan. one day in walnut creek an infiniti with dealer plates was parked in the EV charging parking spot...

Possibly this could be made self-correcting by not locating the charging in spaces which are otherwise the most desirable for parking. I'd suggest using some of the more "inconvenient" spaces.

I agree completely. This makes the parking lot more efficient for everyone. Pick the fringe areas and empty corners and fill them with EVs charging away as they come in a spend money at the business.

The problem, of course, is that the desirable (i.e., closest to the building) spaces are usually also the easiest to run power out to.

I find this whole debate over charging stations interesting from the point of view that where I live, it is rare to ever see another EV, much less worry about somebody else hogging up a charging station. I hope that changes though.

Ok, guys we are in communicatin age, so why don't if we are parked (charging or not), have a visible code or tag permanent on the car that gives the next driver that needs to charge also a way to communicate with the owner of the car that is currently plugged up. When I am at whole foods plugged up, I always put b-card on the driver side window, that allows the person in need to get in touch with me. I have seen this work.

The problem's been solved for nearly a decade already:

EV Charger Sharing Protocol

Download one, print it out and use it when charging in public!

I just printed a little card that I leave in the car when I'm gone. It has my contact info and also has a bunch of FAQs I've received from people who came up and asked about the car. Here's a mockup below (without real contact info or the FAQ):

I tried to make out what the small signs say.
I think they say:
This Space is Designated
As An Electric Vehicle
Charging Station
All Other Vehicles
Will be Towed
At Owners Expense
