I am looking at a 2013 which appears to be in great shape. Low miles, 11 bars remaining, premium package.. But the price is about $1500 more than KBB, NADA, Edmunds say (even on their high end). But I am finding higher than expected pricing basically everywhere (And if the car is within KBB/NADA/Edmunds range, I usually find the battery is not in good shape or there is obvious wear, or even salvage!). The one i'm looking at certainly is in much better shape than others, but does that justify going 1500 above and beyond the pricing guides?

thanks for opinions!!

Do you have a link to the vehicle that has pictures, etc. In case something stands out in pictures that a 2013 owner would spot?

I was hoping not to be this specific, but there's no way to go about it otherwise. Also I am unable to see the car in person, it would have to be shipped to me. And it is an independent used car place (not tied to a dealership) so I would probably be screwed if there was something wrong. Worth the risk or not, I don't know, but there is nothing locally that I would be interested in.

Seems odd that it is priced at a premium with 1 bar down. The last image shows that it was mfg'd on 6/13, which means at least it has the better chemistry. It's probably the independent used car place trying to charge an arm and leg.

Wow, were they paid by how many duplicate photos that could have
I agree, prices in MSP have been quite high the last couple of years but for comparison, my mother purchased a Leaf basically the same as this(same year, same color, same package) and paid the same thing, this was 3 years ago from a private seller, second owner. I can't remember if she paid extra for it but she also got a 30a L2 first owner built EVSE.
She really likes the car, has heated seats all around, nice hybrid heater, nice-sounding stereo, nice all-around camera, oh it still has 12 bars but I believe started with 35k miles.
It's really a nice car but sounds like the price may be a bit high but as I said, MSP has been really high for Leafs lately, if you've looked around a lot and this price seems good, it is a nice car. As long as your looking at shipping the car, personally I'd expand your search area, probably not all that much more expensive than getting something out of CA or better yet WA where it's quite a bit cooler, I believe EVs are quite a bit cheaper on the West coast, more than enough to offset shipping.

How about a 2016 which spent its first 3 years in Arizona? 2nd owner owned it for only 4 months. Should be a Lizard pack, it is also 11 bars (40,000 miles). That one is actually local! I think I eliminated it from my search because it was an arizona car... it is more in line with the pricing guides.

Think the 2013 is too high on price. Why not cwerdna? He was trying to sell his (in CA) for something like $6500? At least he's a trustworthy guy on this site and you know you're not getting a lemon. And if you are, it's $4k below the linked price.

Bit curious that the second owner only had it for 4 months. You could go check out the battery with LeafSpy and see what it says. In general, it sounds fairly reasonable.

Given your climate, I would definitely look at SV/SL (NOT S trim) unless it's a great deal and your range needs are small. You're going to want the heat pump, which makes heating more efficient, which comes on the higher trim levels. However, I think in recent years, the heat pump became an option even on the SV. Perhaps someone around here has more info on that...

The heat pump and heated front seats (rear seat heating was dropped around 2015 or 2016) are an option from 2018 on, and possibly from 2017 - I'm not sure about the latter. That really sucks.

The "all weather package" for the S consists of the heated seats, heated steering wheel, and rear heater duct. Still no heat pump for the S.

My understanding is that SV and SL from 2013+ have the heat pump, it is absolutely a requirement for me!
And 2016 has 30kwh too..? And best part is it's local. I will go check it out tonight or tomorrow.

The 2013 you were looking at does have a heat pump. You are correct that SV/SL 2013 has it.

2015 and earlier all have 24 kWh batteries. The 2016 has a 30 kWh battery IF it's SV/SL. S trim still had a 24 kWh battery in 2016. 2017 made 30 kWh standard across all trim levels.

Any car manufactured before 4/2013 has a defective battery chemistry UNLESS the battery was later replaced. Avoid these.

2011/2012 don't have a heat pump and they have more inefficient heat. I would avoid these for Minnesota.

This is tricky, but in 2016 the S had a 24kwh battery for about the first half of the year. Then, in June or July, IIRC, the S got the 30kwh battery as well. The VIN will show which. I seem to recall that an A in the 4th(?) place in the VIN means 24kwh, and a B means 30kwh.

So I drove the 2016 SL and it is nice, I want it. It was on the quick charger when I arrived, and maybe 50% full. The turtle was on the whole time, and the car said it was due to low temperature. It has been below zero Fahrenheit for the last two days, and at the moment it is around 5 degrees. Is this expected, or a red flag?

I found the owners manual does say the turtle can come on when the battery is -4 F and it has been that cold the last two days. It is warmer now, but probably the battery did not get warmer today. The car seemed to drive normally nonetheless.

You have a better shot with the 2016, the 2013 you sent the link for is nice, but doesn't have the upgraded sound system (missing in pictures), appears to also have the false floor storage in the back. Subtract the missing sound system upgrade from their price if your heart is set on that 2013.

Turtle mode should be for low battery or electronics issue, extreme temperatures just limit power usage (power bubbles) Unless someone here else has seen a turtle mode for low temperature vs. high temperature warnings?

To be clear, the car audio spoke and said something about power limitation. Upon pushing the info button, it displayed the warning about low temperature. And I found in the 2016 Owners Manual, page 2-20 (page 159 on the PDF).

This light illuminates in the following conditions.
-Li-ion battery available charge is extremely low
-Li-ion battery temperature is very low (approximately -4°F (-20°C)
-When the temperature of the EV system is high
(motor, inverter, coolant system, Li-ion battery etc.)
-When the EV system has a malfunction.

I am planning to buy tomorrow. And the weather is getting better, so tomorrow that light better be off!
The dealer has a 7 day return policy just in case.

The car has Premium Package, as evidenced by the Around View, and it appears to have the Bose stereo as well. The sub-woofer is hidden under the cargo organizer.

I haven't had a chance to read this thread yet...

I'm trying to sell it for $6200 at the moment. But, unfortunately, we're far apart. If the OP needs CHAdeMO, my car doesn't have it.

I'm just shy of 67K miles now and still at 11 bars. By either EOD Thursday or next Wednesday, it'll be at 67K. Leaf Spy SOH has now been staying in tthe 81.xx% range now.
