I just bought a 2016 leaf. Supposedly it gets 86 miles to a full charge in the city and 124 on the highway. After having it for two days and charging it twice I notice that the maximum miles on a full charge is 73 miles. I’m wondering if there is a problem with my battery. Is it in accurately showing how many miles I have? Is it a matter of battery degradation over three years? Or is it something else? Do I have a lemon? Prompt answers would be most helpful as I may be able to return it if there is a problem

The range estimator bases its estimates on your last few minutes of driving economy, so by itself that isn't meaningful. You need to give us more information. For starters, how many capacity "bars" are showing on your dashboard charge graph? The capacity bars are the tiny little segments on the ends of the charge "bars." Next, we need either the first five digits of your VIN, if you have a Leaf S, to determine battery size, or if you have an SV or SL, that isn't necessary as you definitely have a 30kwh battery in that case. I'm going to link my used leaf buying guide shortly. Read the section on the 30kwh batteries if you have an SV, SL, or a later S with 30kwh battery.

Your range will ALLWAYS be higher in the city. I believe the published range in miles for a 2016 Leaf S was around 84 miles EPA and for an SV or SL it was 107 miles EPA...ish.

We have a 2016 SV and those numbers are realistic with our driving conditions except in winter.

Heads up, all electric vehicles are the opposite of gas vehicles. Mileage is higher in the city.

Hope that helps.

LOL! Where did you get those figures from?

EPA range rating on '16 Leaf depending on whether it's the 24 kWh or 30 kWh version ('16 "S 30" or '16 SV or '16 SL) is only 84 or 107 miles on a new battery (no degradation). Nowhere is it "124 miles" on the highway. See https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/Find.do?action=sbs&id=37066&id=37067. Your battery will have degraded anywhere from a little to a lot. If yours is 30 kWh, you'll want https://insideevs.com/news/338528/update-nissan-has-software-fix-for-2016-17-leaf-30-kwh-battery-reporting-issues/ applied, as well.

Forget the guess-o-meter (the silly number on the right): https://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=11777&p=271853&hilit=chasing+tail+award#p271853. It's based upon recent driving history.

If you have an S trim or aren't sure if it's 24 or 30 kWh, see https://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=566296#p566296, page 19.
