This GCC article covers the same story, with a couple of graphs if you don't want to read a lot. One of things this article mentions is that they cool the battery during discharge after heating it during charging. The usual caveats about lab results vs. commercial products apply:

Tangentially, I give more thought to avoiding battery plating these days and now only charge after a drive in the winter.

A bad thing that can happen to a battery charging in cold weather or at high currents. A google search can provide more details if you are interested.
