How do I specify an avatar for my account?

Wed Aug 24, 2011 3:25 pm

I've attempted to add an avatar via the "profile" section in the User Control Panel, but the site is saying that editing avatars is not presently supported. Am I misunderstanding something, or is that a feature the truly is not presently supported?

You need to be a paid "Supporter" to be able to use a picture (which can also be an avatar). That also gets rid of the ads.

I can't edit mine either and I'm a Supporter. "The avatar functionality is currently disabled" is the message I see.

Gotta wonder why out of hundreds of forums this is the only one that requires payment to post a 6kb picture

All this does is drive images to 3rd parties that go out of business breaking photo heavy posts

It's not that we require payment in order to post a 6kb picture, that was just one of the benefits we created to people who wanted to support the forum financially - back in 2011!

I'm working on changing the way some of the forum operates, and allowing image hosting is something we want to open up to all members soon.

That’s good news

Believe it or not I was a member here in 2010 during the deposit excitement and had setup my profile, avatar and all but I ended up having to reregister and setup my account again not long after, don’t remember what the reason was.

I can't believe the "avatar" function has been disabled for this many years: what gives?
I was an original supporter (which I guess got me an avatar), but now there is no way to update it; how hard could it be to enable this function?

Are you sure? It looks like uploading/updating the avatar is enabled for current forum supporters. Go to the User Control Panel, Profile, and select Edit Avatar.

Seems un-wize to make such a simple function only available to "supporters" (easy to spot peoples avatar). I was once a forum supporter, but no longer...so I guess that's that with that.
