There was a thread on Tivocommunity going on around this since yesterday but I was hesitant to post this until reputable media sources posted it. It's odd that it took so long.

It's confirmed by a message from Bell Labs' president: http://www2.alcatel-lucent.com/blogs/corporate/2011/10/dennis-ritchie-1941-2011-message-from-jeong-kim/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

C and Unix were the only programming tools I ever really mastered. This was in the days before Perl and Python. If I ran out of Unix utilities, I wrote my own in C and added them to the pipeline. Simple, elegant.

Yep, just pipe 'em together. Used to do a lot of that at The Phone Company. Unix
rocks. :)

Now using a very nice GUI on top of Unix.

Oh no, you worked for "TPC" :)

Cool stuff pipes and useful utilities... Sad news, losing Dennis Ritchie.

Wikipedia: The C Programming Language
Bell Labs: The C Programming Language

The C Programming Language is one of my technical bibles!

Let's see what happens when we pipe LEAFs together?

Hmmm...

<Sun | PV | Inverter | Grid | LEAF | LEAF | LEAF | LEAF | LEAF | LEAF | Zero Emissions
<Sun | PV | Inverter | Grid | LEAF | LEAF | LEAF | LEAF | LEAF | LEAF | > /dev/null (The Unix way of saying Zero Emissions :) )
<Sun | PV | Inverter | Grid | LEAF | LEAF | LEAF | LEAF | LEAF | LEAF | >/dev/FUN

Rather sad to see Ritchie go. Infact I'd say Ritchie has had more influence on tech than Jobs ...

C was the only language I really learnt properly.

I do other languages, but would have to say that C is my native tongue! I find its elegance and simplicity very attractive. Of course, it's a matter of what you make of it.
