My favorite part of that article is their authors slip in names:

Chevrolet, on the other hand, did not run a pre-order program so the majority of 2011 Chevy Leaf buyers are walking in or configuring them on the internet.

But on a more serious note, I still think that the Volt and Leaf are targeting two different markets. I feel that the Volt is more closely trying to take market share away from Hybrid owners with the promise of many, MANY, more gas-free miles with the continued flexibility of being able to drive it any distance.

People looking at a Volt or Leaf might not look on Edmunds for information since they are sort of a different animal. I've used Edmunds as a great resource in the past (I bought my Prius using their quote tool) but I actually have never looked at either the Volt or Leaf on their website, I've always gone to more EV specific sources for info on them.

Either way, I'd bet the same thing was the case in the early days of hybrids.
