Nissan should partner with Google to offer a Nissan LEAF gadget for iGoogle. If you're not familiar, iGoogle is a customizable start page, which lets you add applications (called gadgets) and change background etc. With iGoogle, I could use my notebook (or any web connected PC) to access my Nissan LEAF. Certainly such an iGoogle gadget could support the simple operations and metrics (start HVAC, charging status, etc.) I've read about for the smartphone app. It could also be an easy way to sync the music you have on your notebook to your LEAF.

They should just let us do this through their website. All computers/smartphones have a browser anyway ....

And let enterprising developers develop apps for any platform by publishing an API later ...

That could certainly work as well. However, I've been a little underwhelmed with the Nissan's LEAF website. While it's big on bling, it's low on performance and stability. The latter two attributes are the foundation of a website. If you can't get that solid, then by all means stay away from the bling.

Yes - for the "MyCar" interface - hopefully they will develop a simple HTML interface, either optimized for mobile or a separate mobile website.

Google's Android leapfrogging over iPhone, BlackBerry, Windows

By the end of this year, Google's Android smartphone operating system will in a single year have leapfrogged competitors like Apple's iPhone, Research in Motion's Blackberry and Microsoft Windows phones in global popularity, and will challenge Nokia to become the world's most popular mobile OS by 2014, research firm Gartner said Friday.
It will be interesting to see how my hometown company's Windows 7 mobile phones that come out this winter fare.

200,000 new android. Activations daily. Some say it will pass nokia as the most popular smartphone by 2014. I strongly. Doubt it will take that long

Yes and let me connect through standard wifi instead of this proprietory carwings (one more subscription) nonsense.

And the std wifi works everywhere in the city, while on the move ?

You are comparing apples & oranges here. I like them both ...

OK you may not get real time charge location availability unless you find a wifi hot spot, big whoop.
Otherwise the actual charge locations could be updated every night.
I could see granting permission for Nissan to get the info they need as wifi comes available.

Hopefully in three years there will be an app to allow wifi.

Once I load the updated nav data (and my music), why do I need wifi on the move? To set the AC? Well if it's on the move, I'd better be in the damn car!

Sure I do, but only after several beers! It's even also funner texting at the same time.

I want real time Charging station Status updates. I don't want last nights news only to find out that the charging station broke that morning.

What would be even better Is an estimate of the queue Or how many people are waiting to use the charger

I don't think we'll be getting factual real time data on charging station status. Perhaps one day, when the charger reports it's own status to carwings. But not for awhile.

In EV Project areas - we may even early on.

A paid subscription That does not provide real time data?? Am i missing something here? I can get a paid subscription for traffic reports, so why can't i get status on charging stations?

The very least i would expect is weather or not its being used or not
