Mazda MX-30 EV

Wed Oct 23, 2019 7:09 am

Another new EV announced. Range a bit short but for Asia and Europe it might be good, if the price is right.

The MX-30 features a 35.5 kWh battery and a powertrain capable of delivering 105 kW (142hp) of power and 264 Nm (192 lb-ft) of torque. Range is quoted as 130 miles (~210km) for the European model, which is likely using the WLTP testing standard. This means EPA range will likely be lower, around 110-120 miles.

The MX-30 will be capable of AC charging at up to 6.6kW, comparable to most EVs, and supports DC charging at up to 50kW with either the CHAdeMO or CCS standard.

Did anyone else catch besides the 35.5 kWh battery, this EV also has a Wankel engine :)
They said they are planning on a Wankel because of it's small footprint, I remember the engine of the RX-7 was quite a small displacement but gave plenty of HP.

They also put out mucho emissions and sucked gas, IIRC. Maybe the materials technology used to produce the sliding seals have finally caught up with what is needed for a clean, efficient rotary engine...

My understanding is that there will be pure EV models, as well as range extended hybrids with rotary engines, and even non-plug-in hybrids (? So you don't have to plug it in? Sheesh.)

I wonder if the PHEV would have that very large(for a PHEV) 35.5kWh battery? It would also be nice if the gas tank was larger than the ridiculously small tank of the BMW i3, and of course the iCE would have to be efficient and clean, although nowadays I doubt Mazda could export it many places if it wasn't clean burning :)
Wonder where they are driving in that video? they are speaking Spanish, show people in what I believe is Japan but the beautiful countryside doesn't look like Spain or Japan, more like Northern MN or Scandinavia.......

Yet at 8:26 or so (sorry I can't seem to program start and stop times into embedded youtube videos on this forum), they show a type 2 connector.

I'm guessing it will have CHAdeMO + J1772 in North America and Japan, and CHAdeMO + Type 2 elsewhere. Australian ZE1 40kWh Leafs are like that:

I enjoy his videos. Just down to earth, real world view on the cars, yet enthusiastic about the space.

I also appreciate videos of those that take the time to review and rate charging station locations! (even if primarily on the west coast)
