    New SL owner

Welcome new Leafer! May you enjoy your new Leaf experience as much as I did mine 2 years ago. I suspect you will find that you will need to charge up at work or you won't make it all the way home but that is just a guess on my part; so much depends on speed, hills, wind and other variables. I...

    2013/2014 Nissan Leaf Lease Information

Got my letter from NMAC on Jan 5th, they are pleased to allow me to extend the lease for another year. My question is, how will they recalculate the residual value etc. I will post details as they unfold.

Axial engine - good for PHEV?

I was thinking the same thing. It's the sliding seal along with heat control that's the issue. Of course, regular piston rings are a sliding seal and they seem to last a long time, so maybe Duke will succeed. Another related issue is sealing of the port openings especially on compression &...

Axial engine - good for PHEV?

OP, thanks for the link, I dug the video! I seem to remember seeing a similar design used for powering torpedoes, that was called a "swashplate" engine I think. I was once enamored of the Wankel but that affair was crushed after the reliability and fuel economy problems became clear. It appears...

    Lock/Unlock switches have no backlight

Just discovered this the other night in my '13 SV. Cussed, then taught my fingers the location. Another thing that would have been caught and rectified if Nissan had put out a few prototypes prior to release. Glad I'm not the only one to notice this.

    2013/2014 Nissan Leaf Lease Information

Again thanks. Yes the EV market is weird and probably will be for quite a while as we anticipate range improvements, battery chemistry, rebates & incentives, etc. hence my inclination to just extend my lease and damn the torpedoes! That plus my 99% battery @ 20,000 miles. And on the minus side...

    2013/2014 Nissan Leaf Lease Information

Thanks for the info Bazooka. My lease also expires in March so was very timely. I've got almost 20K on my '13 SV and have a battery at 283 GID's. I like this car well enough to purchase except for depreciation fears, so will have a hard decision next year (assuming NMAC allows me to extend).

National Drive Electric Week events... who's going?

I will be there. I would have RSVP'd earlier but was questionable because of recovery from surgery. But feeling good now and Leafie and I plan to attend in Pasco tomorrow morning.

    Our solar production

Oversized? You mean in terms of cost I suppose. I'd have put in twice the capacity if I could have afforded it, because I just like making my own electricity and the more the better! In-state components maximize the incentive so we used them. No shade on array; it is sited on a nice bare south...

    Our solar production

We have an Itek (Washington state made) 9,600 watt array with "Blue Frog" micro's. Haven't the time to do a month-by-month table but last year's production was 14,462 kWh. The WA incentive is .54/kWh with a $5,000 cap. The first check arrives next week which feels really good. This...

    Carwings out this morning?

Was out here as well, but is now working. I post about this at regular intervals, if for no other reason than to vent frustration  ; I'm quite sure no one at Nissan cares a whit about Carwings other than a promotional tool, otherwise it would have been scrapped by now in favor of a system...

    Cost of Carwings?

Here's my Carwings rant: No, I will NOT pay for the current slow, unreliable system, no matter what. It is a veritable "antique" when compared with similar systems, for example, my home thermostat mobile app. It's obvious Nissan made a decision to cobble up the cheapest possible system so they...

    Suggestion to replace/supplement Carwings

Hi, the "Rad Stat" system is indeed connected to my LAN, however it works the same wherever I go, which implies that my LAN data is uploaded to a remote server and retransmitted over 4G to my phone. And that's my point: there's no technical reason Nissan couldn't duplicate that system - at least...

    Suggestion to replace/supplement Carwings

Didn't want to start a new thread so am using this one which is as close to what I wanted as I could find... Carwings works (sort of), but is desperately in need of improvement! Here are the issues: 1. TOO SLOW - all my other iPhone apps update instantly. Why does it take 2-3 MINUTES for a...

Poll : The official 2013 "Did you Lease or Buy?" thread

We leased our '13 SV in March, 2 year lease. Here are our reasons not to buy in order of importance: - battery degradation - technology improvements & range - insurance against resale value loss ...as also stated with most other posters on this topic. Lease terms: $296/ month, $2500 up front...

How much did your EVSE install cost?

AeroVironment EVSE = $1,064 on Amazon.com. This was before cheaper ones became available. Dealer was asking $2,000 for the same thing. 240v feeder, did it myself. Materials (40A breaker, 60 ft of #6 Romex, boxes & 50A receptacle) = $120. Search on EVSE and Petecomp1 to see my detailed...

Future LEAF to offer choice of battery size

Call me a pessimist, but I try to be a realist. One of the first things my Dad taught me: "You cannot put 10 gallons of paint into a 5 gallon bucket". Doubling battery capacity with current tech would require a completely new Leaf platform IMO and reduce range (and the delightful nimble...

Blink Quick Chargers Disappearing in Tennessee

Our local EV club, MCEVA, just participated in commissioning a new Blink station in Pasco, WA. Blink (i.e., car charging) support contact was very responsive to our various needs for help. Seems like they are serious about running the business at this point. Sure hope so!

    Charging Costs

Here are my numbers: I own 3 vehicles, a 2013 Leaf, a 2004 Honda Pilot, and a '91 Dodge Dakota pickup. I record all my fuel costs. Just finished my 3rd quarter fuel cost analysis. March 12 thru Oct 12 2012 (pre-Leaf, gasoline only): $3,690 Same period this year, post-Leaf: $351 (gasoline...
