Good to know what the breakdown is, and where there could be room for improvements. I understand and respect the desires and passion many have on the subject of AGW, but I'm afraid I can't get that excited about it. Maybe it's just a symptom of getting older, but I've been around long enough...

Ford just reported a $3.1 billion loss. Blame Rivian https://www.cnn.com/2022/04/27/business/ford-loss-rivian/index.html Had seen some headlines of the Ford EV loss but most didn't have much in the way of an explanation, but this one did.

Thanks for the explanation and thoughts based on your real world testing - it's always good to learn new things! Although it is a consideration, I would not rate pollution/CO2 concerns as a primary factor in my decision making. I prioritize optionality in fuel sources while avoiding the gas...

Yes, indeed, it would be cool to see a diesel powered version of a PHEV. But, lots of folks are used to gas powered, so as a bridge to full EVs, it's probably a better choice.

Thanks for pointing that out, although I'm fairly sure it's not usually operating under the cold engine scenario when heating. In my experience at least, what happens is that on the first call for heat, the engine runs continuously until the engine comes up to temperature and roughly comes on...

Certainly not disagreeing with you, I am a big fan of EVs and still have and drive the LEAF almost daily since 2012 (at least in warm weather anymore). My thinking is that if the objective is to move the fleet to more EVs than ICE, and given that most people currently drive ICE, then perhaps a...

It's certainly not optimal for running on all EV-mode to have the ICE kick in when you need heat, but here in PA the past few winters it basically means that mostly in January, February you wind up running it a little, not really a big deal as the engine only turns on intermittently as needed...

Hi jjeff, For sure, it's a bit of an "optimistic" presentation and no disagreement on the practical side of the matter either. When looking to replace our old 2002 Ford Escape we wanted to go electric, but at the time (late 2019 - prepandemic, so no supply chain issues then) there wasn't...

On cell specifications and battery charging characteristics

This charge / discharge curve was from a ~70% Gen 1 LEAF battery as measured by: https://batteryhookup.com/products/nissan-leaf-battery-module-gen-1?_pos=3&_sid=b960afe2b&_ss=r&variant=31260807626884

Saw this interesting graphic summarizing the stats for all EVs currently available in the US market: Article here: https://www.visualcapitalist.com/visualizing-all-electric-car-models-available-in-the-us/ They list the Nissan LEAF as one of the two most affordable EVs.

help needed to clean/remove blower motor

Hi, Not sure if it's the same on the newer models (or RH types), but a few years ago I had some mice store acorns in our blower fan and needed to take it out (several times!) to clear the debris. The advice and videos in this thread really helped...

    Heater/AC Fan Removal?

I'll add my thanks and gratitude for this thread with all the very helpful photos and comments. After following the procedure for our 2012, found the fan and air cavity packed with acorns and other debris. Wound up doing the fan removal several times as debris continued to blow into the fan...

    Battery Upgrades are very possible

Would these kits be for all model year Leafs? Would these kits include the batteries that go in the hatch, new cells for refurbishing the main pack, or some other combination? We have a 2012 SL that's down to 7 bars now and knowing what would be needed for the kit ahead of time would allow the...

    Recommended replacement tire

Just replaced the set of Ecopia plus tires we've had on since March 2016 after getting about 40K miles out of them. Considered all the good suggestions made and ultimately went with the Vredestein Quatrac 5 XL tires, purchased from Tire Rack. So far have been liking them, but will know more...

Is it possible to adjust transition from regen to friction brake (lurch during an otherwise smooth stop with 2011 Leaf)

Our 2012 has had this issue for years as well and this trick cures it for a while. What seems to bring the bad behavior back is when the traction control kicks in while traveling over bumpy surfaces where one wheel will leave the road surface and spin separate from the other tire, such as when...

    Recall notice July 2019

Yes, just received the recall notice too. Haven't had a reason to be back to the dealer the past few years, but will probably have the work done in a few months once they have some time to practice on others first. :)

    Battery Upgrades are very possible

In case you haven't already seen it, "Mux" has been working on this sort of device: http://mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=6522&start=390 He's added on a battery pack to his LEAF and I think is looking to do replacement packs as well with a startup he's formed. Fenix Power is also...

Better, Diesel-Fired Liquid Heater for 2011-2012 Leaf

Although it's for an iMiev, this write-up and video series I thought was very helpful in understanding the issues involved with integrating a hot water heater into an EV: https://300mpg.org/imiev-heater-installation/ Also: https://youtu.be/6saRb8Fh2gE

    LEAF+ press release

It's perhaps a parochial point of view, but what matters to each is what is available to them in their area. From my door, within about an 80 mile radius, the breakdown of fast charger locations is (according to Plugshare): 44 CHAdeMO 32 CCS 13 Supercharger Locations aren't specifically a...

    LEAF+ press release

The marketplace will ultimately decide who is correct on the issue of using a TMS or not. In the fullness of time, it's entirely possible battery technology will be improved enough that a TMS will not be necessary at all. Yes, Nissan has made incremental technical improvements to specific...
