    Capacity Loss on 2011-2012 LEAFs

Said goodbye to Leaf # 257 today. Donated to the Salvation Army in Ridgecrest, CA. Final stats were 38.24 Ahr, 58% SOH, 36.82% Hx. Full charge was about 155 GIDs; around 12 kWh. 47,455 miles. About two months less than six years. I would still be driving it to work, since it still hasn't...

Amended Settlement in Klee v. Nissan

Same here. Nissan assumed that since I was in California, I wanted the NCTC card. I sent in the form explaining that I couldn't use it... no chargers within range... so I wanted the $50. Never heard another word. My Leaf's down to about 58% capacity. 38.62 Ahr. 47K miles. It'll be donated...

Discuss data from the LEAF Battery app, and Comparisons

I wonder if the power limitation would show in the accel/decel bubbles. If not, it is easy to floor the accelerator and see if I get the full 80 kW. Stands to reason, though, that at some point battery resistance will limit available current. If last summer had been like this one, the car...

39.92 Ahr today, 60% SOH, 39.37 hx. It has lost nearly two Ahr this year and summer is just getting started. The car may become a 5-bar loser yet this year. 45,532 miles, 66 months.

    Altered capacity bar thresholds?

Yup, your analysis is correct. I lost 4th bar at 41.87 Ahr; about 63.2% of original capacity. 43.5K miles, two months after capacity warranty expired. If I had it to do over again, I would not have P3227 done until 4th bar disappeared. There's little doubt that Nissan adjusted the bottoms of...

people getting rid of their Leafs/EVs/PHEVs and going back to ICEVs

The Leaf will not have enough range to do my commute as soon as winter hits. I didn't understand when I bought it that it was a disposable car and would be essentially worthless after five years. I bought a a Prius when it became obvious that the Leaf's battery was degrading rapidly, so I'll...

How long 'til 4th bar drops?

170 mile round trip, towing the Leaf on flatbed trailer behind 15 mpg truck, losing a day's pay, in the hope that Nissan might have a change of heart? Didn't someone report recently that any cars covered by the class action were not candidates for bbb process?

How long 'til 4th bar drops?

I'm about done with the Leaf. I'm a year away from retirement and involved in some of the most demanding work I've ever done. Not enough time or energy to fuss with arbitration. Since I'm self-employed, taking any time off for arbitration would be costly, especially since the meeting would...

How long 'til 4th bar drops?

Today (3/5/2016). I drove the car to about half charge this morning, charged it up and it had lost ninth bar when I started it a few minutes ago to make a beer run. 2011 SL 43,481 miles 179 GIDs full charge 41.87 Ahr / 63.7% SOH 42.57% Hx 62 months since purchase -Karl

Battery Ahr dropped into the 41's today. Still nine capacity bars. 180 GIDs at full charge. -Karl

Nissan LEAF / NissanConnect EV severe security vulnerability

"Decline" button seems to work fine, as posted by gsleaf. I probably won't bother to turn NissanConnect EV back on again; it's going to break in December of this year anyway when AT&T shuts down 2G cellular service. Regarding the comments about turning on my AC or heater every 20 minutes...

Battery Replacement Race with the Warranty

From a warranty loser... park it now. Only drive it when temp is well over 100 degrees. Do not waste those precious miles now! Drive it hard and get the battery HOT. Don't risk losing out on $6500. -Karl

What expectation or concerns do we have of a Nissan 60kwh battery

Exactly. It's not hoarding, it is hedging against capacity loss. It has become clear that Nissan does not have a handle on hot climate battery life. If I need 60 miles from my Leaf and want it to last 8 years, then it needs to start out with 50-60 kWh. -Karl

Outside air temp (and my battery temp) are hitting 70 degrees now, and the artificial boost that the Leaf's firmware gave the battery over the winter is fading. 42.12 Ahr tonight, the lowest I've ever recorded. I saw one 42.27 back in November, and then it climbed back up to about 42.5 during...

    Capacity Loss on 2011-2012 LEAFs

Hill, you're fighting a tough battle. The Leaf's BMS in some fashion inhibits capacity bar loss during cold months. Almost nobody reports a bar loss during winter months. As my battery pack cooled down last fall/winter, it reported a gain of about 0.5 Ahr. I'm sure this wasn't real, just a...

    5 Years of Ownership

I think that OrientExpress has it right. Unlike the cars that we've owned and driven in the past, the Leaf has obsolescence built-in. My 14 year old diesel pickup is just as capable as it was the day I bought it. On the other hand, my 5 year old Leaf is down to 50 miles maximum range now and...

    Lizard Pack Holding Up

A couple of years ago, OrientExpress, who seems to have pretty good ties with Nissan, stated that the objective of the car companies was to have cars become consumables just like cell phones, with about a 3-year lifespan. Buy or lease it, drive it three years, and recycle it. A battery that...

    Lizard Pack Holding Up

The degradation reported by Evoforce, sksingh and others has convinced me that it is not worth $6500 to replace my battery next fall. Conditions in Ridgecrest are not quite as intense as Phoenix, but my battery lost about 0.6 percent per month. And there's the other consideration... that right...

Decoding Door Sticker for Battery Manufacture Date

Neither. There ought to be another sticker containing manufacturing and gross vehicle weight info. Can't believe that it isn't there; it contains a bunch of regulatory information. -Karl

    Lizard Pack Holding Up

So averaging 0.5% loss per month. 60 months, 30% loss, which is right in line with what a lot of cars did with their original batteries. Whether or not that is better than original battery depends on where you are. Phoenix cars probably lost about 1% per month on original batteries. -Karl
