Andy Palmer and Chelsea Sexton Discuss the Nissan LEAF

YES! exactly what I had in mind. It's actually sounds like a good deal compared with an all new battery. 4KWh system for 3,500$. A new battery would probably cost 10,000$ net as I've mentioned, and that would only get you what, 3-4KWh back? And maybe old LEAF modules can be used in...

Andy Palmer and Chelsea Sexton Discuss the Nissan LEAF

Yes, you probably couldn't connect additional 5 year old modules serially to the old ones because of the issue you raised. However, is it absolutely not possible to somehow connect them in parallel or as an additional range extending reserve?(i.e. them feeding juice to the primary battery pack...

Andy Palmer and Chelsea Sexton Discuss the Nissan LEAF

I don't believe they would actually replace all the cells in a pack, it's probably cheaper to either - give you a new pack and take the old, or replace individual cells. So if you want all new cells, you will probably pay 12K$ for new minus a 2K$ rebate for the old one, or 10K$ net. However, if...

Andy Palmer and Chelsea Sexton Discuss the Nissan LEAF

A lot of stuff going on in this thread around battery price, most of them look fantastically low(5K$) or high(19K$). But I guess introductions are in order. My name is Edward and I am a professional investor living in Israel. My interest in the whole EV thing was aroused by me buying the shares...

    Official Renault Zoe thread

They may support it in future cars if Zoe sells nicely in Europe. However, Nissan is an independent company and Japan is filled to the brim with CHADEMO chargers. They may stick with that for quite a while. Wouldn't make much of the commentary, journalists focus more on the fluff than substance.

    Official Renault Zoe thread

When CHADEMO was introduced the chameleon charger was still in development. Carlos Ghosn hinted that the engineers initially tried to delay the production of the LEAF due to technical considerations, and this could be one. Plus, the I-MIEV already launched with CHADEMO. So it was probably a...

Agreed, it sounds amazing. But that's what they say, so :) I'm guessing that's what they call a "breakthrough" in power electronics. Plus mass production cost benefits of course. First toothpick in the toothpick factory is a 10 million dollar toothpick :P

    Official Renault Zoe thread

I'm guessing it's a new development so they couldn't integrate it in other models yet. Also other models were not originally designed to be electric, except for Twizy which doesn't need a big charger anyway.

Renault says: "ZOE is the only electric vehicle to feature the Chameleon charger. Patented by Renault, this charger is compatible with all power levels up to 43kW. Charging batteries at a charging station can take between 30 minutes and nine hours. For example, ZOE can be charged in an hour at...

a 43KW integrated charger is great, and makes the cost of infastructure neglegible.
