How much did you get for the leaf?

I have been hearing that the leaf consumption improves with milage as compared to when the car is new. So despite the battery degradation in the leaf 40 the range does not change much. did you notice that? If true, my theory would be the reduction gearbox wearing initially causing higher...

Thank you so much. Sidewall max is 50 PSI. I tried 46.5 Psi in front and 44 psi in rear when tyre was cold. Made a massive reduction in the jiggliness! I have 17 inch tyres which already have lesser sidewall so was surprised that a higher pressure can benefit the ride!

    Suspension

I recently bought a high milage Nissan Leaf ZE1 from 2018. Its now done 221000 kms. It rides very well and comfortable over big bumps. However I find the ride to be a little fiddly when going over slightly undulating roads. Almost a bit jelly like, very mild constant springy oscillations (side...

Weak cells will diminish the range and you will see sharp drop in battery percentage at the lower end but the car will continue to function. The error codes will only appear if one of the modules develop an isolation fault , that is the high voltage side leaks into the body of the module. You...

    The 40KWH Battery Topic

You have quite a tired battery with the rear stack generally more degraded which is common if the battery has gone through more heat cycles. However unless there is an isolation fault, the car can keep running for several thousands or even more than hundred thousand kilometers with a slightly...

Those are cells from the rear stack. Due to heating probably during Rapid charges and fast driving they have become a little weaker. Thats why you see the symptoms. But at 181000 Kms, isnt the warranty over?

Is this Leafspy screenshot at rest or while accelerating? While accelerating hard it is normal for cells to get imbalanced. Since my battery is new, I will try the same at low SOC to see what i get. How manky kms has it done? Has the battery temperature reached the red zone frequently?

You dont seem to be accelerating too hard while the SOC is dropping. Can you post a leafspy screenshot to show the cell voltages. If you have a weak cell you can get it replaced in warranty. I bought a high milage nissan leaf 2018 with a replaced new battery but it is out of warranty. When I...

I did not mean converting a 40kWh to 59kWh, but trading it in for a 59kWh ones they hit the second hand market. The 59kWh was released later, so they haven't hit the second hand market yet. But I would lose to much, if I would trade my car in now. So I rather do it in a few years, and I really...

    The 40KWH Battery Topic

The cost of converting a 40 to 59 would not be viable. I would suggest you can always trade it or sell it for something like a Kia e-Niro with 64 kwh usable (more like 70 kwh total to compare with leaf).

Yeah that seems about the same price it would be here in Portugal. I also got mine for almost the same value 3 months ago, a 2018 model. For the SOH you have, you should have many years of motoring left on it. We got the leaf as a second car around town. But since we got it we have rarely used...

@snakebitten how much did you get this leaf for? I am not aware if low Hx would have correlation to any noticible issues. Theoretically probably heating up a little but more during high currents.

    The 40KWH Battery Topic

Thats about average I see for most 2018 SL. What hurts these low milage cars is being constantly kept on the charger at 100% for most of its life. I have seen this especially impact the Conductivity Hx. What is your Hx reading on leafspy?

    The 40KWH Battery Topic

Very well said. However 75 Farenheit (24 degree celcius) is quite impractical since my ambient temperatures are higher than that during the day most of the summer. Based on data 2018 cars have the NCM chemistry which is much more heat tolerant than the previous generation LiMn chemistry used in...

Do you live in a very hot climate? what mV cell difference you see and at what SOH? Do you charge to 100% or 80%?

    The 40KWH Battery Topic

18 KW corresponds to a C rate of 0.5, which should not cause problems. The only key issue is the temperature. So it all depends on your ambient temperature. If the battery is at 20-25 degree celcius before the charge and ends up with 30-35 degree celcius after the charge i would not worry about...

Just charging to 75% makes wonders. If you can do that daily to keep low depth of discharge , its the best. Do you keep your car in a garage?
  19. A

    The 40KWH Battery Topic

You should not be making deep discharges for max longevity. Just charge to 75% daily irrespective of how much you drive. No need to charge to 100%. cells get balanced with every charge , they dont need 100% charging which is more stressful.

CATL Full Battery 64 Kwh with BMS

I have seen many russian videos of these cells being used. The vendor whose link I posted also supply with the CANBUS and have sent me many videos of their testing the leaf with the CATL batteries. I believe over a full discharge/charge cycle the BMS learns the new capacity and updates the new...
