    When does cell balancing happen?

Thanks for all of the responses that I've received to my question. Simply the fact that there have been a variety of proposed 'answers' to my question tells me that it was worth asking. I'm now tending to think that cell balancing happens whenever the car is 'on' ... whether driving or...

    When does cell balancing happen?

Hi Dave ... thanks for your input. I use my Leaf for commuting in and out of the town that I live close to ... a round trip of about 32 km / 20 miles ... and I expect that it'll be able to do that for me for many years to come. I also manage to do that with the car charged up to 80%, but I'm...

    When does cell balancing happen?

Hi Stanton ... thanks for your input. If I only ever charge to 80%, does that mean that my cells will never balance? I strongly suspect that your assertion is correct ... but there are plenty of people out there who are convinced that never charging to 100%, and unplugging the charger as soon...

    When does cell balancing happen?

Hi LeftieBiker ... thanks for your input. I can be driving down the street and I'll see both red and blue bars on my Leaf Spy Pro graph. This would imply that cell balancing is attempted at least whenever the car is on, even if being driven. Is this what you're suggesting?

    When does cell balancing happen?

Hi Dave ... thanks for your input. If, as you say, there's no benefit to charging to 100% for anything other than extra range, are you suggesting that cell balancing occurs under other conditions, or that cell balancing isn't an issue, or is unnecessary?

    When does cell balancing happen?

Having owned a 2012 ZE0 24kWh for a couple of years now (30000km on the odo, 65% SOH), and having read too many forum posts that I hope will answer this question but don't, the thing to do is to just ask the question as clearly as I can ... WHEN does cell balancing happen in the Leaf battery...

    Ghost in the machine

Hi Guys. It's been a while since I posted this topic starter, and I'm now ready to drop the battery pack out (again) and have a closer look at what's going on with it. The voltage difference between the troublesome three and the rest now drops to around 150mV. Reading through some other posts...

    Ghost in the machine

A couple of months ago, I replaced 3 weak modules in my 2012 24kWh battery - specifically, cells 65, 73 and 81 (as identified by Leaf Spy) would drop 200mV+ below the rest of the pack, triggering turtle mode even though the battery would still have ~40% SOC. I couldn't source new modules, but...

Just bought an old LEAF ... and am enjoying the challenge ...

Thanks so much for this ... please appreciate that I'm an absolute newbie to Leafs and to this space ... so excuse me if I ask what the FSM is ... I don't cope with acronyms ... never have ... Thanks again ... this diagram matches what I found to be the cell/busbar layout in my battery pack ...

Just bought an old LEAF ... and am enjoying the challenge ...

The diagram that Dala shared doesn't match the reality of a 2012 pack ... the bridge between the two front stacks is in the top layer of the stacks ... this diagram suggests the bridge is down in the second layer ... shame ...

Just bought an old LEAF ... and am enjoying the challenge ...

Hi everyone. I've impulsively bought a 2012 ZE0 with a meagre 21k on the clock and 9 bars of health. Sadly, having acquired LeafSpyPro, I now find that three of the modules contain weak cells that are severely impacting on range of the vehicle. Being a bit of a mechanic and also an...
