What is the warranty on a dealer installed 24 kWh pack?

I have a 2011 LEAF that had a new 24 kWh pack electively installed about 3.5 years ago. I have the service paperwork from the dealer, but there is no warranty info on any of it specific to the new battery, and I combed through my emails from the time and can't find any info there either. I...

    Need additional Key FOBs

Thanks, very good to know. I'll be sure to ask the locksmith if A.) they will work with third party keys and, B.) whether they can source the keys as well, OEM or third party. Steve

    Need additional Key FOBs

Thank you! Apparently, good locksmiths who have expertise with modern automotive FOB based key systems can program aftermarket FOBs that are much, much cheaper than getting one from Nissan. Best regards, Steve

    Need additional Key FOBs

Hello - I recently bought a 2013 LEAF, but the owner only had one key FOB for the vehicle. Is there an alternative to buying a new key from Nissan to save some money? Steve in NM

24 kWh Battery replacement cost back down to $5500

The dealer worked with me to bring the cost of the needed wiring harness and shop rate down so I could get my insurer to reappraise the vehicle and repair cost, which got the claim figure back to within the market value + margin ratio that the insurer wanted. They funded the repair after all...

24 kWh Battery replacement cost back down to $5500

Unfortunately it turned into a fiasco. Upon removing the original battery, a pack rat infestation was discovered, complete with a large, live pack rat who had been along for the ride, which then bolted and ran out of the shop. Wiring damage was discovered. Insurance claim filed. Insurance...

    2011 LEAF battery wiring harness

Indeed, my thinking exactly. I live out in the boonies with rodents galore. I do need to do something to eliminate a repeat of this issue. Various rodent countermeasures, if you will. I did have a visible pack rat nest in the motor compartment at one point, but nothing got chewed on. If I...

    2011 LEAF battery wiring harness

Excellent info, understood on all your points. Yes, the car is currently totally functional and passes a shop diag, so I don't think the damaged cabling is (yet) electrically compromised. I need to personally take a close look at it an decide whether I can just repair it in place with some...

    2011 LEAF battery wiring harness

No kidding, I was also taken aback by that cost. Maybe that cable carries real current to the inverter? Steve

    2011 LEAF battery wiring harness

Understood, that makes sense based on all the connectors shown on that harness. I was able to get a dealer to tell me the PN this afternoon. They say it is 24014-3NA4A. The two suppliers I linked to earlier do list this part...

    2011 LEAF battery wiring harness

Dear LEAF community, Due to rodent damage, I need to replace the battery harness that is immediately visible when the battery assembly is removed from the car. It runs alongside and under the main disconnect access panel. This is a photo of the damaged harness...

need help with BMW i3 buying criteria

Absolutely. I have already advised my friend to stay away from that version! I need to know a lot more about the i3's battery and the particular way BMW conveys its state of health. Steve

24 kWh Battery replacement cost back down to $5500

My 2011 LEAF with 45K miles and a marginally performing 8 bar battery is at the dealer in Albuquerque getting a new 24 kWhr battery. All in, about $5500 (less sales tax, probably). Looking forward to returning to using this car as much as I did when it was new! Steve in New Mexico

need help with BMW i3 buying criteria

I have a friend who is shopping for a used BMW i3. As a 2011 LEAF owner, I am well acquainted with the downsides to being the early adopter, and I can advise those interested in buying a used LEAF what the early technology problems were, what model years to favor, and how to ascertain the...

Production years battery compatibility with 2011 model

Oh crap. I must apologize. I've been talking about just the white bars, not the total including the two red bars below the white bars. So, based on this realization, my car's capacity gauge was 9 bars in mid 2016, because it had (and still does) have 7 white bars and 2 red bars for 9 total...

Production years battery compatibility with 2011 model

That's very discouraging to hear. I had at least a couple of conversations with Nissan in mid-2016, a month or so before the 5 years was up on my car, and I am quite sure they were telling me that my car would only be eligible for a warranty battery replacement if my capacity meter was at 6...
