    Winter Tires

I don’t know for sure, but if I had to guess, it would be the rolling resistance of All Weather tires. Rolling resistance is a more significant consideration with EVs. Tire design is a series of compromises and improving one trait tends to sacrifice another.

GCC: Canada awarding $4.6M to Petro-Canada for cross-country EV fast-charging network

Looking at Petro-Canada's website, they have now opened all of the EV Charging station on their Electric Highway. According to Plug Share, the most recent station (Burrard St. in Vancouver) opened on June 3. Apparently they plan to open more stations over time, but this is the last one from...

    Winter Tires

The other factor with using winters in summer is in warm weather your traction won't be as good in warm weather (the rubber gets very soft), thus degrading both your handling and stopping distance. This could affect your inseparability in a collision if the insurance company determines that the...

How many amps for new 240V install?

From what I have heard, that is about the average life expectancy for cheap EVSAs. Maybe you will be lucky and get 3-4 years out of it. A good one should last over 10 years. I said if the service is full, not if the panel is full. Adding a sub panel allows you to add more breakers, but it...

How many amps for new 240V install?

Does the Nissan EVSA limit the current to 28A (current limiting is in 1A steps in the J1772 protocol) or is its limit higher and the charger inside the Leaf is the one limiting the current to 27.5A. Plugging a load that is capable of drawing more than 80% of the circuit's maximum would be a...

How many amps for new 240V install?

If you are confident that it is genuine, then great! It could be a cheap knock off though. You have to careful with cheap EVSEs sold on eBay and Amazon, as many aren't safety certified. Hardly a bargain if it burns your house down. Durability is another factor. Cheaply made EVSEs...

How many amps for new 240V install?

For Flow and Tesla, you just buy a second EVSE at the same price as it is a standard feature on the Flow X5 and all Tesla Wall adapters. ClipperCreek seems to sell them in bundles that appear to cost more than two individual ones, which seems strange. I don't really know much about their...

How many amps for new 240V install?

There is no industry standard. Here are the ones I know of. There may be others. The Flo X5 uses HomePlug powerline communication. It looks like the ClipperCreak Share2 charging stations use 3 low voltage wires . The Tesla Wall Connector has a pair of low voltage wires that connect them in...

How many amps for new 240V install?

To each his own. I would prefer the flexibility offered by Power Sharing for the one time cost of making sure the wiring and configuration are done right (yes, the code does permit this configuration), as I can envisage situations where being able to charge one vehicle faster than the other...

How many amps for new 240V install?

IMHO, I would rather one 40 or 50A circuit with two 32 or 40A Power Sharing Electric Vehicle Charging Stations. That gives you the flexibility to quickly charge one car or divide the power between both cars. It would also likely be cheaper than having separate circuits. The sub-panel route is...

Any V2G or V2H charger available yet for US?

The biggest issue with supplying backup/emergency energy when the grid is down is the the legal requirement of disconnecting your service from the grid when on backup power. This needs to be done by a separate piece of equipment, not the V2G/V2H box. That equipment will usually have a way of...

EVgo To Add Tesla Connectors At Fast Charging Stations

Maybe they could work a deal to have an adapter to allow Leafs to use Tesla Superchargers* and have new Nissan BEVs use the Tesla adapter. You often hear Tesla fans say that Tesla is willing to let other EV manufactures use their Superchargers, but none have negotiated this. This could be a...

    Frustrations with Public Charging Stations

I agree that 10 years is a bit optimistic, but I feel 20 years is a bit pessimistic. I expect it will be somewhere between the two. Once we get to price parity (which many expect to be in about 5 years), the sales of BEVs will increase sharply. Why wouldn't you pay less up front for a car...

    Electrify America Network

As I mentioned in the EVgo To Add Tesla Connectors At Fast Charging Stations thread, the most recent "Plugged-in with Tom Moloughney" segment on E for Electric discuses Tom's recent visit to EA's head office, where he interviewed Electrify America's CEO and other executives. Certainly worth a...

EVgo To Add Tesla Connectors At Fast Charging Stations

It wouldn't help CHAdeMO but with CCS, one option would be to DCFC the first car plugged in and AC charge the second car. Once the charging rate of the first card drops below a certain threshold, switch it to AC charging and start DCFCing the second car. This would obviously require populating...

Questions about a "free" JuiceBox EVSE on Oahu

Fully Charged did a video on a charging station sold in the UK (called zappi) that will work with your photovoltaic (PV) system to charge your car when you have excess PV energy or when grid prices are lowest. It would be nice if something like that was available in North America. The priority...

Safe to charge via dryer outlet?

As others have said, you shouldn't be using a 30A EVSE on a 30A circuit. Having said that, the reason for the fault is likely because you haven't connected the neutral (white) wire. Although the car doesn't need it, the EVSE would need it if it has an iterated GFI.
