    Lizard Pack Holding Up

So I've had my new Lizard pack installed for 8 months now and it has seen one full Phoenix summer (from February to now) and am happy to say that it is definitely holding up better than the original. I received my Leaf on May 31, 2011. By October 1st of the same year my gids dropped from the...

Tax Relief for Solar Investment Losses?

Long story short, the supplier of my solar panels (OPEN Energy/Applied Solar) has gone bankrupt. Meanwhile the famous Arizona heat has damaged my 11KW array beyond repair. It is a systemic problem - all 320 individual panels have opens below the glass resulting in low or no output. I took one...

What's YOUR max Regen? Anyone beat 43.3kW?

Since getting my new battery and all the associated regen bubbles, I've been noticing that there seems to be a limit at around 43.3kW on regen. Although AvailableRegen indicates I should be able to get more I cannot seem to break the 43.3kW limit. Has anyone observed a higher number than this?

How To: Splice-less Always On Power Outlet

I recently needed to be able to power an accessory while the Leaf was fully OFF so I moved the fuse connection to an unused always on slot in the fuseblock (heated seat). Took some pictures in case others are interested: 0) Open the hood and close all doors with the car off. Wait 5 minutes...

Hypermilers: Don't use Neutral to coast to a stop

Warning: may be tedious for folks who don't obsess about putting every eV to the best possible use, feel free to move along[edit: added smiley] :) - this is a topic for the efficiency-focused crowd :geek: . The reasoning why I say Neutral is not the most efficient mode to coast in is while the...

Devices to Monitor Battery State and Driving Efficiency

Nissan LEAF Canomicon: 0) My findings on the CAN bus Developer: turbo2ltr Debut: 2/20/2011 Although not a physical product, I put this at the top of this list since turbo2ltr :ugeek: was the first to decode the canbus and started the ball rolling for all the following discoveries and...

Coasting consumes a kilowatt - crazy

Interesting observation this morning. I don't usually do this, but on a whim, I threw the Leaf into Neutral to coast up to a stop sign (there was noone behind me and I was in a mellow mood :-)). Anyway, I was surprised to see that I was still consuming 1kW of power. It doesn't show up in the...

    The CANary project

    CV^H^H *Tire* trouble anyone?

Mine hasn't failed yet but showing the signs (clicking under heavy accel or lite accel during corners). Has anyone here had a failure yet? Anyone else hear theirs? Edit: Changed title since the problem turned out to be the tires (presumably delaminating).

    Press button to check?

Completely inane question but it's been bugging me for some time. When I hit LBW, sometimes the Leaf cyber-chick just says "Low Battery Charge", other times she says "Low Battery Charge, Press Button to Check." Anyone figure out what the criteria for the additional comment is?

    The Anatomy of a Gid

I recently plotted gids versus time along side of energy versus time: Since the perturbations in the gid curve during a charge occur between 25 and 50 gids (which bounds the knee in the voltage vs charge curve), I am starting to believe that gids are nothing more than a linearized version of...

    Build a better GOM

Has anyone found a message that is sent just before the car is shut down? I am working on a DTT (Distance to Turtle) display mode and want to store some historical information to the eeProm just before the car is shut down to better estimate range when the car is powered back on. I have to...

    1 gid *mostly* equals 80Wh

My recent observation that my car came back with more gids on an 80% and 100% charge while still drawing the same power from the wall led me to go back and check more logs on the value of 1 gid. Using three turtle to 100% logs (so non linearity won't be considered a factor), I computed the...
