    Blink emails

I stopped getting the automated emails from my Blink a few days/week ago. I thought maybe the successor to Ecotolity shut that "feature" off or went out of business. Then, just now, I got a flood of all the backed up emails. Has this happened to anyone else? I don't much care about those, and...

Time to regulate public charging infrastructure?

There have been a number of threads recently about frustrations with privately owned public charging infrastructure. These include (lack of) interoperability of membership cards, station reliability, the fact that many effectively hold a deposit, high and illogical charging cost, and so on...

Q for owners of 2012 or later (seat heaters)

I've swapped 2012 seats and switches into my 2011. I'm still fussing with wiring, but have the driver's seat working. It's wired into a fuse that, according to the fuse box cover, is for seat heaters, so Nissan must have been anticipating moving to seat heaters. However, I discovered that the...

Meaning of charge bars after capacity bar loss?

I just lost my first capacity bar, and I'm trying to understand what the charge bars mean now. Do the reflect a (rough) % of the original or current capacity? I would have thought the latter, but the behavior of the charge bars suggests it's the former.

    LBL--promising new lithium sulfur battery

    Possible solution to battery loss?

http://techcrunch.com/2014/03/24/gbatteries-batterybox/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; These people claim a different BMS will dramatically reduce battery loss. I'm not sure I buy it, but if it works out for the small i-device market, it could be a big thing for EVs and for...

Replace seat vs DIY seat heaters

I've been planning (and planning...) to add seat heaters to my 2011 SL. I recently was offered a pair of seats from a semi-junked 2012 or 2013 that the current owner is parting out to electrify a former gas car. Any advice on the advantages/disadvantages of replacing the seats vs retrofitting...

    LA DWP EVSE rebate extended/expanded

The LADWP rebate program for EVSEs has been extended, and expanded to include commercial establishments. The residential program grants a $750 rebate, and some more bennies if you participate in their TOU program. The new commercial program grants $750 for wall mounted and $1000 for pedestal...

    New PG&E EV rate schedule

As a participant in the last round of PG&E's EV rate rulemaking, I got a notice today that they are implementing their new EV rate. As I recall, they agreed to make that rate mandatory only for new entrants, and allowed everyone on E-1A and E-1B to stay on those rates for the moment (my big...

DOE IG report on use of EV funds

The Inspector General's findings on the use of stimulus funds for vehicle electrification. DOE agrees, and has already started making changes. Results: The Department could improve its financial management of the Program. Specifically, the Department had not obtained and reviewed required...

    PG&E tries again to modify/remove E9 rate

They're back! PG&E has "addressed" comments on its proposal to remove tiering from the E-9 rate structure...by getting rid of E-9! That's a little hyperbole, as they would replace it with an new rate called EV, but the same nuts and bolts, and problems, are there as in the original proposal...

    PG&E Summer E-9A rates graphic

My household wanted a graphic way to figure out when peak/part peak/off peak hours are, so I made this. It's a bit crude, but it might useful for others as well. It includes times and a $ multiplier based on the off peak rate, and tier 1, which is where I mostly live. EDIT: I discovered an...

3 bills introduced in CA legislature re EVs

(mods--this doesn't seem to fit in the "Regional" category, but if I made a wrong call, feel free to move) This is pulled from an announcement from CalStart, which is supporting this legislation, so the editorial comment is theirs, rather than mine. AB 2405 (Blumenfield): This bill would...

    Spots on paint?

My white Leaf has a multiplying number of small brown spots on the paint. They don't come off in a normal car wash, though they usually come off with vigorous rubbing with a finger (though not a sponge). Any thoughts on what they are from or how to remove them? I've thought about car wax, but...

Ready, Set, Charge (SF Bay Area and U.S.)

I haven't seen any discussion of this document, released in November: http://www.baclimate.org/images/stories/actionareas/ev/readysetcharge_evguidelines.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; A Guide to EV-Ready Communities Ready, Set, Charge California! was a collaborative...

Anyone else get this survey--Population Research Systems?

Just got this in the mail today. Looks like a typical new car buyer survey (though no clue about who they are doing it for), and it's not Leaf focused--asks about the engine type: Gas, diesel, hybrid. Especially since I'm not sure who is asking, I'm reluctant to fill it out. Anyone else get...

    New Bay Area Blink/EVP agreeement?!!

Just got this from Ecototality. The substance doesn't bother me greatly, but being asked to provide info and agree to more reporting after an earlier agreement was in place smells bad to me. As an EV Project participant, we would like to thank you for working with ECOtality North America...

    Theft proof license plate?

I'm a little paranoid, since the rear plate on my Prius was stolen (side gripe...the way I found out was I had a ticket from the ever helpful Berkeley PD). I'd like to find a way to fasten my Leaf plates so they can't easily be stolen. My first thought was to substitute machine screws and nuts...

    Stuck!

An unusual early October downpour saturated the newly turned soil that my Leaf was parked on, and my plan for a quick trip and then parking on the street (while the mud would be turned into a permeable driveway) turned into a call for help! My Leaf's drive wheels quickly dug a hole almost to the...

    Sun shade?

This is a very pedestrian accessory, but a necessary one for me, since my Leaf lives outside. Is the Leaf windshield a standard size, so that it's easy to get a roll-up sunshade? When I got my Prius, there was not a standard sized one that fit, and I ended up getting it through Priuschat.com.
