    Towing/charging a Leaf

I'd read somewhere of a Tesla owner who towed a model S with a model X, and charged it using the regenerative braking. I thought I'd try that - see if I could tow my 2016 Leaf with my gas pickup truck with a tow strap, all wheels on the ground. Yes, you can. Mechanically, it's the same as...

Tow hook for 2016 30kWH Leaf

Based on my best guess, and attempts to measure the thread by screwing a piece of wood into the socket, I ordered an M24 eyebolt from AcklandsGrainger.com It's a Fabory D444B ST4.6 M24-3X200. Finally, after months on back-order, it has arrived. Amazingly, it fits. That cost about $26. I need a...

Tow hook for 2016 30kWH Leaf

Got the DRLs, no headlight washers. I find I'm setting off at night with no rear lights, because the DRLs are on and the instruments are backlit. The Leaf bugs me to turn the headlights off when I stop, so I do. On my other vehicles, no lights, no instruments - it's more obvious. I often see...

Tow hook for 2016 30kWH Leaf

Man, this is annoying. When I check https://www.nissanpartsdeal.com/parts/nissan-hook-towing-fro~51112-1ka0a.html, it shows 511121KA0A as a fit for the 24kWH models only. When I look at https://parts.nissanusa.com/, it shows it as a match for LEAF 10/2010 - 12/2017 and LEAF US MAKE 12/2012 -...

Tow hook for 2016 30kWH Leaf

It was new, 2016 model year bought in November 2016 in Canada. There was a locking wheel nut adapter in the glove box. I didn't find anything in the tire pump area, either. It ought to be hard to miss. I've had the rear seats completely out, too - nothing there.

Tow hook for 2016 30kWH Leaf

I recently got my Leaf stuck in the snow. It would have been trivial to pull it out with my 4x4, but I could not find the tow hook. There's a fitting in the front bumper, but the owner's manual does not mention it. The dealer said it would be with the spare wheel, but there's no spare. The...

    Recovery Hook Thread Size

I believe that the front tow hook for the 2011 through 2016 24kWH battery models has an M22 metric thread. Nissan part number 511121KA0A, as per various other Nissans e.g. Altima, Rogue. The 2016 30kHW battery model seems to use a larger thread, possibly M24.

Leaf Spy and Leaf Spy Pro

Incorrect current readings I recently bought Leaf Spy Pro (v0.38.80 en) for Android, using a Konnwei OBDII on a 2016 Leaf with 30kWH battery. Excellent app, lots of data - I'm down loading the CSV files and graphing them. When I plot column 10 in the CSV, "Pack Amps", it gives half the real...

How robust is the cargo organizer ?

Well, I went and bought one through a dealer. The installation instructions (from nissan-techinfo.com) say "max load 150lbs". Our dog weighs only about 60. He seems happy enough sitting on some old carpet on top of the organizer. I'm a bit annoyed that there's a large hole (gap) between the...

Replacing door mirror in 2016 Leaf

Thanks. Found mwalsh's guide still online at http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?t=18983 $102 CAD from the local Nissan dealer including taxes in 3 days was a better deal than $52 USD delivered next year with freight and duty added on. Relatively easy lying on my back with a flashlight and...

How robust is the cargo organizer ?

I'd probably do something like that, except our dog travels in the back. The organizer seemed like a good place to put charger, tow strap, booster cables etc. as well as hiding stuff from view (I made a cargo cover, but that won't work with the dog there).

Replacing door mirror in 2016 Leaf

I just cracked the passenger-side mirror in my new Leaf  - backing up to charge it and caught the mirror on an unexpectedly robust bit of laurel bush. I've seen a Burco heated glass for sale online for some USD $50, but that shows for the 2011 and 2012 model years. Is the 2016 the same...

How robust is the cargo organizer ?

We recently got a 2016 Leaf SV, and it seems to be lacking places to put stuff (tiny glove box, no tool/tire compartment). I was looking at the optional cargo organizer for the rear, but our dealer doesn't have them in stock unless we order. How robust are they - how much weight can you put on...

    Addressbook format for Leaf GPS

Pulled it - impenetrable binary format. Why the heck can't Nissan use some kind of open standard ? There are far more charge points listed on plugshare, openchargemap etc. (certainly when combined) than the Nissan database, and it's not like navigation is some kind of secret.

    Experience with nissanconnect ?

I've now written a nasty bit of Perl to check the charging status and log it. Doesn't turn on the A/C yet. Contact me if you want a copy. I also found a 3rd-party Android app that seems to work for me better than the Nissan one.

    Experiences travelling in Canada ?

Cool! I keep forgetting to check back or make sure I set email notification. I've now got the Elmec EVC30T-05 EVSE; still waiting for the rebate. I had to drill the rivets out and change the power cord - I'd already pre-wired a NEMA 14-50 outlet and it came with a 6-50 plug. I thought of...

Is it possible to disable the automatic door locking ?

Thanks. I must have forgotten to turn on notification and didn't see your reply till I went looking for one. I happen to have ordered an OBD dongle to work with LeafSpy already, just because it seemed a useful app. Not arrived yet. Do you happen to know if the door unlock works in the free...

Is it possible to disable the automatic door locking ?

Just bought a 2016 Leaf. The doors all lock automatically after about 20 seconds driving. Is there any way to disable this ? It's really annoying. No carjackers here, but we've had someone standing in the rain trying to get their luggage from the back seat while the driver tries to find the door...

    Experiences travelling in Canada ?

I guess I could make a few adapters. 14-30R, 6-50, TT-30 with 50 foot of #6 welding cable as an extension cord, with an OpenEVSE multi-current unit to run to a laundry room. Probably never going to happen, I'm probably just going to use my truck for trips up north (certainly if we take a travel...

    Experiences travelling in Canada ?

We recently bought a 2016 Leaf. Our primary use is commuting, shopping etc. in the city so no problem doing that charging at home, even with just a Level 1 EVSE. But I feel I was slightly misled by media stories, or my own naivety, about the practicality of long distance travel. I had read, for...
