Weak/low drivers side windshield washer squirts

Thanks to all who posted the shim fix for the weak/low on the windshield spray pattern problem. I used 6 small rectangles of electrical tape (stacked) for each nozzle placed on the cleaned nozzle base toward the window side of the nozzle base to raise it up and make the spray hit the center to...

    End of Lease Strategies?

We bought out our 24K miles, '15 Nissan Leaf S (no qc) at local Nissan dealer yesterday. Purchased the car with loan from NMAC. Happy with car and deal. Here it is: MSRP- $30,620. Includes $29,010 base price + $850 destination + splash guards, floor mats, cargo mat, and cargo cover. Lease...

    End of Lease Strategies?

DuncanCunningham, We are in a small market with only one local Nissan dealer and very, very few EVs on the road. The closest big market for EVs is either Indy or Nashville, TN. Do you think these incentives are only available through dealers in your state of residence? Thanks. Edit- you...

    End of Lease Strategies?

Thanks to everyone sharing their end of lease purchase experience. Great info. I was curious about incentives here (IN) and contacted the dealer we bought the car from. I talked to the salesman who leased us the car in '15 (36 months). He was pretty clueless and said to contact Nissan. I went...

    I'm a 3.7 miles/kWh flunkee

I'm in the efficiency mindset, but can't help flooring it occasionally- merging on-ramps, moving left to make a turn lane, etc. Based on my usual driving, people probably think the Leaf is just a slow econo box. Not so when I instantly pass them. Fun!

Any advantage of Level 2 vs Level 1 charging other than time?

We're still using 120V with the trickle charger. I had the same issue of the car not charging to 100% a few times. I guess the issue was heat buildup in the outlet and this tripped the 15 amp GFCI breaker, which itself was 32 years old. A new 15 amp standard breaker and several new GFCI outlets...

How many people just use 120v charging at home???

We've been charging with a 120V garage outlet since getting the Leaf in April. With typically 15-20 miles of daily driving, the 120V charging isn't an issue. The wiring has been another issue. Our tract home was built in the early 80's and had cheap builder's grade outlets with wires pushed in...

    I Beat EPA's 2.9 Miles/KWh : Report Your Monthly Mileage

It's ideal weather lately for driving the Leaf. No AC or heating is needed. Efficiency lately is 6.0 miles/kWh in the car and 4.65 at the wall. We are still charging with 120V and it's app. 60 foot run of 14 AWG from the basement breaker up through two house receptacles and then into the garage...

How and why did EVs get politicized?

Agreed. And so does the EIA (from 2009): Note that over 40% of CA homes have NO cooling equipment versus the national average which is lower than 20%. Also note that about 14% of CA home have NO heating equipment versus the national average of about 3%. Heating a home with electricity in a...

How and why did EVs get politicized?

And I'm still curious how "deep their pockets are". It's one thing to pay a steady return over decades, but it's another to have a stash of cash available for advertising, promotions and related campaigns. Not as deep as the car companies and car dealers who are probably the top advertisers...

How and why did EVs get politicized?

I'm not sure where you're going with this. I'm just saying that this local utility company is very stable. They pay 3%-5% dividend yields every year, have increased dividends for 55 years, achieve AA bond ratings, and influence state government policy on many levels. In general, the regulated...

How and why did EVs get politicized?

% It's predominantly coal fired electricity here from power plants built in the late 60s to mid 80s with locally sourced coal. Many people associated with coal have "friends of coal" signs in their yards. Natural gas is used here, but with older single cycle equipment to handle peak loads. Wind...

How and why did EVs get politicized?

The electric utility industry has deep pockets and excess capacity in many areas. For example, next year when a large multi-national plastics company in our area turns on their new co-gen unit (a.k.a. combined heat and power), our regional IOU will lose 10% of electricity demand or 500K MWH per...

How and why did EVs get politicized?

I live in an area where people are generally clannish, and quite frankly, below average in math and science knowledge. This is a problem when dealing with a new high tech car that uses kilowatts, batteries, and regenerative braking. People generally follow what their family or friends do...

Clowns doing first EV State Inspection

Good story. Spreading the smiles and teaching the clowns, one by one. It's amazing how many people don't listen anymore.

    I Beat EPA's 2.9 Miles/KWh : Report Your Monthly Mileage

Getting 5.5 miles per kWh on the efficiency gauge with city driving. This seems to be 0.6 too high based on odometer readings versus battery level indicator changes. GOM seems to be pretty close on our 2015 S. So the car's range is 4.9 x 21.3= 104 miles for the last full charge matching GOM...

I Beat EPA's 73 Mile Range : Report your experience

I agree with your driving style and safe, calm attitude. I drive the same way and don't get too upset about idiots. My gasser is a 1995 Mazda Protege, 5 spd. manual with pretty low gearing. It has taught me to drive at 60-65 MPH on the highways/interstates over the last 20 years to maximize...

The official "I got my Leaf" thread

New 2015 Leaf S in red purchased on 4-4-15. The dealer actually added rubber floor mats as an option, even though the car came from Nissan with the fabric floor mats option. Crazy. We had to walk out of the local Nissan dealer's showroom when they rejected our offer after 3 back and forths...

What was your previous car before Leaf?

Our new Leaf S is my wife's car, but the old vehicle is sitting in the driveway right now for repair with a broken defrost actuator. I've done lots of auto repairs, but pulling the dash on this van and fixing this is a royal pain. What is this lemon: 2001 Olds Silhouette- purchased new and will...
