Re: NEMA 6-20 charger recommendation for 2017 Leaf

Also if they will have an outlet there isn't a 40a outlet, you'd need a 50a outlet which the code allows to be hooked to a 40a breaker as there isn't a 40a outlet. So now you'll have a 50a outlet with a 40a breaker that someone could plug in something like an RV and draw over 40a, tripping the 40a b...

Re: How to get moving if your 12v battery is dead (ZE1)

The Gen III Prius has two little lead posts in the engine compartment, under a small cover in one of the electrical boxes there, connected to the 12 volt battery in back. Ironically, it would be easier to use those with small gauge alligator clamps. Yes sounds like our '07 but the cover isn't parti...

Re: How to get moving if your 12v battery is dead (ZE1)

I do have a ~$50 lithium jump starter but truthfully haven't had to use it as I purchased a new 12v battery about the same time and all has been well. I kind of agree with you about the maintenance of such things, if you don't keep it charged it won't do you much good. My Lithium seems to be barely ...

Re: NEMA 6-20 charger recommendation for 2017 Leaf

You can purchase an inexpensive EVSE with a 6-20 plug off Amazon(or other places) that will give you 3.8kw charging, by comparison, a standard 120v EVSE like the one that comes with a Leaf will only put out 1.4kw so in your case 240v would give you almost 3x the charging speed. That said as Leftie s...

Re: What should I know about 2023 SV+ vs older models?

Yes the heater got a lot better after Y2011, 2012, a lot quicker to heat and not as much of an energy hog. Of course the heatpump Leafs were even better for vehicles equipped and in temps warmer than the low to mid teens(F).

Re: What should I know about 2023 SV+ vs older models?

You will need a 14-50 outlet on a minimum 40a circuit but better for flexibility to just do a 50a. Yes the '23 EVSE will work on any vehicle with a J1772 connector like Leafs have. Yes you can also trickle charge with the new EVSE if plugged into a normal good quality 15 or 20a 120v circuit, it has ...

Re: Things You REALLY Need to Know When Shopping for a Used Leaf

I totally agree with Sage, I never saw 80 miles on my '13 when new, his numbers are spot on for an 11 bar '13.

Re: EV or PHEV?

I believe Outlander PHEV has a resistive heater for cold EV driving. True, the EV range isn't quite as good as the Rav4 Prime and to us the biggest negative was the ICE mpg. That and the heater wasn't a heat pump but I guess it would have the advantage of working in all temps, just less efficient i...

Re: EV or PHEV?

Our RAV4 Prime has a heat pump but no resistive heater. What this means is we have heat while in EV mode down to the teens but colder and truthfully in the low teens, we have to force the ICE on to get decent heat. Also while the summer EV range of the Rav4 is around 40 miles, the winter range even ...

Re: Low efficiency - What could it be?

I'd also check the temperature of your brake rotors after a drive and preferably if you haven't applied them for a while, coasting to a stop helps in the test. If they are hot you could have a stuck rotor or more. It happened to my '13S and I was getting very poor range, a $500 brake job later and n...
