Re: Enphase field MTBF: M190: ~36 Years M215: ~316 Years M250: >357 Years

Forgot about this thread (seems like most of us did!), but fwiw, 3.5 years later and still no failures on my 12 M250s as of 2022-11-20. Looks like RegGuheert hasn't been here in a few years, so unlikely he will see this and update the spreadsheet. Now I'm just trying to figure out if there's a way ...

Great idea!

Re: Chevrolet Bolt

I am satisfied with the current level of risk I have with the car set to Hilltop Reserve and parked outside. I think this is quite reasonable. https://www.facebook.com/groups/chevroletevgroup/permalink/1276905792666326/ has an interesting development. Even after the interim "repair" (to l...

Re: Chevrolet Bolt

I'm not sure I follow you. A proper BMS will monitor cell voltages and ensure that bad things don't happen. So why is it unlikely that an improperly programmed BMS could cause this problem? It reads to me like you support this theory more than presenting an alternative. Unless it is the question of...

Re: Chevrolet Bolt

One of the theories that I've heard is that as weaker cells age, their internal resistance increases. The BMS software may not account for this properly, causing those weak cells to overcharge, overheat, and start a fire. That seems unlikely to me - what is the max pack/cell voltage that GM charges...

Re: TSLA corporate outlook

Beats me. The difference is most of them, with obvious exceptions, have been annually profitable for decades. Tesla has yet to manage that, but at last they're getting closer. Elon's quote which you posted above, flat out says not to expect significant profits for the foreseeable future. With over ...

Re: TSLA corporate outlook

As for comparing Tesla to legacy automakers: the only magic about Tesla is the willingness of its founder to throw truly fast amounts of money at the operation. Tesla has not spent the vast sums of money you seem to think it has. Toyota could have easily spent the money if they had wanted to. But y...

Re: TSLA corporate outlook

Everyone else is at least 10 years behind and they have no clue about lithium batteries, or charging, or thermal management, etc. They don't even know what it is that they need to know, and are too proud to admit it or accept a generous offer from a technology disrupter. There are two manufacturers...

Re: Early Adopter Mistake - Running on Empty

So it's generally about 50,000 miles from 12 -> 10 bars. Sounds about right! At a cost of $5500 per battery, that's 11 cents a mile. Not sustainable. True. But today's best EVs have 60 kWh batteries for about the same price as the 2011-2015 LEAF with a 24 kWh battery. The 60 kWh battery even at end...

Those are peak ratings. Actual average power consumption will be far less. On the order of 10s of watts at normal listening levels. Or basically negligible.
