Nice going Coollibrariandude!
Same thing with me-- we live in a condo and can't charge at home. We just charge at the nearby Whole Foods. No problem with my short commute. I've been on lots of trips to Monterey and back from the peninsula-- no problems.
Thanks all,
I called PG&E and they support a meter install that bills it to me but sounds like it would be too costly.
I'm gonna check with the HOA and see if they'll just agree to have me pay them based on usage that I track with one of these monitors that is mentioned.
Thanks, something like these may work if my HOA trusts me to reimburse them. Considering how they reacted when I had my car plugged in, it's not likely.
The Kill A Watt says 15 Amps max. I don't know how much the car uses.
Does anyone know how I could setup a meter that plugs into a regular 120V outlet?
I live in a condo and have a garage with a 120V plug, but the HOA doesn't allow charging a car from it because the electricity gets billed to them. Is there a way I can use a meter that charges me for the...
Congratulations! I'm surprised you wouldn't want a Tesla after reading the book, but the Leaf is nice EV. Be aware that the fast highway speeds reduce range quicker than city driving. I have the 107 mile range Leaf and I have make it from Salinas, CA to San Mateo, 92 miles of highway driving...
+1 to powersurge.
I agree a car is to drive. A Leaf is for driving electric. I would drive one even if it had zero telematics features, no GPS, no map, nothing but pure and simple electric, zero emissions driving with a nice smooth ride, fast acceleration and good steering. These are the core...
@mihird
I just returned from a 300 mile trip, from San Mateo to Esalen Institute south of Big Sur. With at least 3 quick chargers along my route it was easy. The southernmost QC in Monterey enabled reaching my destination 50 miles beyond, and back again.
@johnlocke
I notice the car charges...

It's working great for getting around the SF peninsula and to/from work. My work commute is short so I get through days at a time without...
Thanks JPWhite,
They look great and prices seem very good.
Sure wish I didn't have an HOA. If only they were on our side, helping us make progress, rather than striking a mean tone, even mentioning that the police had warned the HOA before about extension cord charging. Something I wasn't...
I too have been trickle charging my Leaf using the outlet in my own covered parking space. There is an outlet directly above the car that I plugged into.
I just got a nasty, threatening letter from the HOA telling me to stop charging or else. It was really quite negative, saying "the San Mateo...
I own a condo in San Mateo (Lauridale) and have my own covered parking space. I have been trickle charging my Leaf using the outlet in my space and I got a nasty, threatening letter from the HOA telling me to stop charging or else.
Can anyone recommend a good electrician in the area who can...
Seems a bit high but quite close to the deal I got. For me t's not worth more money for the premium pkg as it doesn't add much, but that depends on what you thin of it.
I don't want to dig too deep, but as it's a new topic to me-- just a couple points:
@powersurge: I totally agree that we as a society go overboard reviewing the minutia of tiny problems in products.
However, It is important to breathe clean air. It's wise to take reasonable precautions in...
My new 2016 Leaf has the sticker and its strong odor bothers me, both the smell and the health risk of breathing petrochemicals. That stuff is nasty bad for you and should be avoided.
Does the air purifier actually reduce the health risk, or just remove the smell? I would assume if you can't...
