Last night I was reading the forum and asked my wife (primary driver of the leaf) if we still had 11 bars. She said she had last checked on Tuesday and we did, but she didn't check yesterday. I told her I was surprised that we hadn't lost the second bar, given the first one went on May 26 and other folks who lost their first one after that date had already lost a second one. I then told her that with the higher temps of the last few days I expected we would lose it this week for sure. This morning she turned on the car and it showed 10 capacity bars."

#117 May 07, 2013 geolizleaf Tucson, AZ 17808 miles 20 months 07696 "Lost my first bar 5/7/13- 17808 miles; 20 months. Usually charge to 100%, drive 40+ miles/day, average 4.5m/KWH, knew it was coming for several months.

Suspect this is normal for the environment we live in. Hope the new battery warranty we have heard about is real, Nissan rep said to expect a letter soon when I called in to report the loss. I got a case number, but didn't ask for anything at this time. We'll see how the summer in Tucson treats me, Otherwise the car has been great. Really like the acceleration when I've needed it"

#116 May 07, 2013 TNleaf Nashville, TN 11000 miles 22 months 05818 "I finally lost 1 capacity bar. It was a few weeks ago, a little over 11,000 miles. Now that the weather is warming back up, I still haven't seen the 12th capacity bar (reported by some). #115 May 07, 2013 LTLFTcomposite Boca Raton, FL 17642 miles 17 months 05926 "We've tried to be careful with the battery even though it's a lease, although not to the point of obsession. Charged to 80% on weekends and 100% on weekdays but with driving starting ~1 hour after completion so not sitting too long at 100%. Any time we went away the car was left at ~50%."

This morning I woke up to my first capacity bar *poof* gone on my 2011 SL, VIN#909. Mileage just turned over 25000. The climate has been moderately cool here in SoCal. I was toying with the idea of trading in the lease for a 2013, but now with 11 bars the plummeting value death knell has begun and those rose-colored glasses are off. It's still a great car to drive, and I can only hope that Nissan gets it's **** together with 2014 and thermal battery management. If not, I'll simply support a competitor that does."

Battery is to small and degrades way faster than they told us it would. The Carwings system is a complete joke and none of the inboard gauges give accurate readings."
#107 Sep 27, 2012 Gina Miller Rifkin Van Nuys, CA 13000 miles 16 months "Why is it that we have lost the first battery capacity bar at only 13,000 miles? I have now owned a leaf for 16 months and I have already lost close to the full 20%."

#105 Sep 27, 2012 pb1 Dallas, TX 16000 miles 10 months "Have been losing the range gradually over the last year dropping from average of 85 miles when new to below 65 miles now. No QC and always garaged with driving in eco mode only. The annual checkup last month only confirmed one bar lost with dealer service adviser telling that it is performing as expected. Now I get the low battery warning every day on my regular home to work and back trip. Hopefully Nissan will address this issue as otherwise the leaf needs to go since it won't meet my 60 mile weekday commute in winter. UPDATE: Finally, Nissan reviewed my case and bought back in early November indicating clearly that this is for customer satisfaction and not due to the lemon law from any defect."
#104 Sep 26, 2012 Unknown owner 2 Riverside, CA 14500 miles 11 months "Another non-MNL Leaf owner in Inland Empire, CA lost his first bar on 9/26/12 at 14500 mi. after 11 mos of ownership. No indications he ever attempted to 'baby' the battery. Yet to call in for his case no."

Charge to 80% approximately 80% of the time - when charge to 100%, vehicle is driven within minutes. Parked outside and charged - very cool with coastal fog most nights with L2 - usually 50-60 degrees every night even if it was "hot" (85 degrees) during the day."
#101 Sep 22, 2012 Merrill Fratkin Phoenix, AZ 13 months " I've also heard that that much lose is the result of severe use and charging. I don't and I've still lost one bar already. I am just glad I leased it so after I am done, it's someone else's problem."
#100 Sep 22, 2012 DesertDenizen Tucson, AZ 6771 miles 14 months 6/11 06272 Sep 22, 2012 949-7015 "I don’t wanna to be in this club! ...I charge to 80%, never did a QC and charged to 100% exactly three times. The 100% charges were done just before I drove so the car spent no time sitting with a full charge. Never drove below 2 SOC bars. Received all 5 stars at my first annual, which was on 7/25/2012. I only charge every other day or so. I start to charge at 6 in the morning and usually leave around 9 so my Leaf doesn’t even spend much time at 80% charge. My Leaf has spent 90-95% of its time between 3 and 8 SOC bars. My long term average is 5.7 m/kwh and I drive on the frontage roads, not the highway, so I never exceed 45 mph. Exclusively in Eco. It is parked under a carport. I am out in the desert so there is no blacktop or concrete, just dirt. Tucson averages about 6 degrees cooler than Phoenix. Summer temp bars are usually 6, I have driven (but not charged) with 7 temp bars for short durations, but not many times."
#99 Sep 22, 2012 ockam Los Angeles, CA 16000 miles 16 months 02090 "I just noticed I lost my first bar this weekend after 16 months and 16,000 miles of use in socal."
#98 Sep 21, 2012 ewodraska Tucson, AZ 13146 miles 16 months 3/11 01742 Sep 21, 2012 949-1706 "I saw my first 9 bar 80% charge on June 25th. I haven't had a battery temp. below six bars since mid April. I only saw 7 temp. bars this summer a few times. I can park in the shade of a tree at work, but have to move it as the sun moves. Charges outside in my carport.

Charge to 100% maybe twice a month, the rest of the time charge to 80%. I did try to baby my battery this summer by keeping the max SOC to 7 bars. 5 stars on my yearly battery check. Life time average of 5.0 mile/kWh"

#1 Oct ?, 2011 Gonewild Chandler, AZ 12000 miles 7 months 00229 Originally reported as a PM to vrwl. "Hi just wanted you to know you can add me to your list and I have lost 1 bar on my second battery pack. Yes this is my second pack I was the first in Oct 2011 to get a pack replaced after 7 month and 12,000 miles. Now at 23,000 miles 14 months I have lost 1 bar again. I called Mark Perry who I have stayed in touch with from the beginning and replace my first pack off the record since I never called the No Gas number. I told Mark Perry the problem is back on Friday and he said he is adding me to the list of cars. I will cancel my lease if the problem is not a good fix. Meaning a patch is not good I would like to see them add an active cooling system for free to AZ car with problems."

#8 Jan 8, 2013 emmphx Phoenix, AZ 9100 miles 17 months 6549 Drive 45-50 miles per day, charge to 80% every weeknight, never charged DCQC, charge to 100% on the weekends. No loss of capacity bars but there is a steep dropoff when I charge to 100%. ie a 15-20 mile drive will start at a range of 107 and be down to 65 within 15 minutes. There is a 1000 feet altitude change when this occurs. Car is parked under covered parking during the day; temp is often 110 degrees and up in the summer even in the shade. Car is garaged at night. We have noticed that if we need to charge earlier (ie when the temp is still 90ish degrees as opposed to say at 3 am when it might be 80...) we don't get as much range.

No loss of capacity bars but an anecdotal loss of range (4-5 miles?) from doing the same daily drive now for 16 months.
