Well I guess it was just a fluke. I went down and paired the bluetooth on my android 6.x phone and leafspy connected no problem.
Yep. I've been using a Nexus 5X w/Android 6.x.x (now 6.0.1) for a few months w/Leaf Spy Pro over Bluetooth.

I had to go to this phone as my work requires us to use either the Nexus 5X or 6P if we want access to certain corporate resources. So, I had to turn in my Samsung Galaxy S6 that was working fine w/it (and was still on Lollipop aka 5.x.x). Before that, was using a Galaxy S4. The BT dongle has been the same one the whole time.

So you can get the menu to come up ok by tapping on the Soft Menu icon at the top right?

Yes. Tapping on that (using Pro version) yields the 2 rows of buttons: Select OBDII, View Trip Log, Settings, About & Help, Exit.

The phone came w/the factory image and I had to apply a boatload of Google's updates (all delivered to recent Nexus phones). It's not rooted, not running CyanogenMod or anything like that.

Thanks for that. Maybe the issue is just with Leaf Spy Lite. I will get Leaf Spy Pro and try it.

Please report back if LeafSpy Pro works for you. It is compiled with a much newer version of B4A so that might make a difference. If it does then I will release an updated version of LeafSpy Lite using the newer compiler.

I have installed LeafSpy Pro and the Soft Menu works fine on the Samsung S6. Looks like it is only the LeafSpy Lite build that is effected. Now I just have to find a Leaf to buy!

One thing I did notice as I was changing the Settings on LeafSpy Pro - when you change the units between "Feet, mile, mph" and "Meters,km,km/h" the Range setting is automatically changed to the correct unit but the Trip Distance is not. Exiting out of the Settings and going back in the Trip Distance unit is then correct.

Is the LELink OBD-II bluetooth (http://www.ksolution.org/outdoor/enginelink.html) supported by Leaf Spy/Lite/Pro?

I purchased and have used Leaf Spy Pro on iOS, but have just changed phones. When I bring up Leaf Spy Lite
it immediately asks to pair with the bluetooth device, which is not done for Bluetooth Low Energy devices.

^^^ I don't think Jim has implemented support for the new low energy devices yet on Android versions.
He plans to but has been busy working on Tesla versions.

Hello everyone, I have tried Leaf Spy Lite with GoPoing BT1A (2.1 device, link bellow). Found the dongle in some box, worked fine on my Prius 2nd gen.

http://gopointtech.com/product/bt1a-for-apple-android/

Pairing went fine with both Samsung Galaxy S3 (on KitKat) and Galaxy Tab S on Marshmallow. But that was it, few times "Broken Pipe", SOC is 0% all the time. I guess it is because of BT 2.1, can someone confirm or give some advice? Thx in advance, best regards from Norway

Turbo3, can you remove the recommendation for the KW902 from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Turbo3.Leaf_Spy_Lite?

Right now, it still says
Due to a recent cost reduction (and feature reduction) many of the cheap ELM327 OBDII Bluetooth adapters from Asia no longer work with the Leaf and report themselves to be version 2.1. The only one currently recommended is the Bluetooth Konnwei KW902 which still supports all the needed ELM commands to communicate with the Leaf.

(For those who don't know what I'm referring to, see http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=23776.)

Today I tried this dongle https://www.kjell.com/no/produkter/elektro-og-verktoy/verktoy/maleinstrumenter/obd-2/obd-2-adapter-elm-327-for-bluetooth-p48500?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIptvure_p1wIVwZkbCh2NpQRFEAQYAiABEgK-bvD_BwE

and I received an error "ELM327 does not support AT command FCSH which is needed to communicate with your leaf"

Hi there, I've just bought a Leaf and Leaf Spy seems to be an essential piece of kit. However I'm getting the same problem with two different OBD2 devices and two different phones so before I buy yet another I thought I'd better ask!

1. Both devices pair with no problem
2. Leaf Spy Lite selects the paired device fine
3. Leaf Spy then runs through 'Config ELM 01' up to 'Config ELM 09' in a yellow box, bottom right.
4. At 'Config ELM 09' it stops. The lights on the dongle are flashing and this is the ELM trace:

You should be getting a warning message that those adapters do not support the required commands to communicate with the Leaf.

You need to use an OBDII adapter that support the full ELM command set. Most of the cheap ELMs on the market now do not support the full command set anymore due to cost reducing the components.

Try one from VEEPEAK.

@Turbo3: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Turbo3.Leaf_Spy_Lite still says "The only one currently recommended is the Bluetooth Konnwei KW902 which still supports all the needed ELM commands to communicate with the Leaf.".

If you can update the Lite listing to disrecommend the KW902 like the Pro version...

Thanks for the reply, when you say "should be getting a warning message" where does that message appear? I didn't see it anywhere but that probably just means it was right in the middle of the screen in big letters!

OK, I now have a working ODB2 device. Just to share with you what works and what doesn't:

Not working despite one review to the contrary: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B016IP4A7Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Not working: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00UR5BRZU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Working (yay!): https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0185GE8GM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Even better news is that it's currently on special offer for £8 but only 2 left in stock.

I now know that I have a SoH of 88% and a 23mV headline figure... I wonder if that's good!

Best wishes, Peter

Based on the recommendations I saw on the "Pro" app listing I bought this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QJRYMFC/

I have a Galaxy J7 and a Leaf 2016 (the middle model). The lite app won't connect. If I click on btle in the app's connect menu, nothing happens.

There is a newer version of the LELink that requires slightly different setup. If you email me I can send you the small text file that replaces the one in the folder LeafSpy uses on your phone.

I try getting started with a Bluetooth dongel and the LS lite. Two dongels have I tested, the first one did was a v2.1 and according to the app not supported for communication. The other one is an v1.5 (confirmed to support ALL communication by "ELM327 Identifier". But the LS lite still shows no stats. It seems to be stuck after config elm the config leaf shows. Number 14 appears and sometimes goes down to 12 or 10 I think.

Logg from lite setup:
