Re: Leaf Spy, unscruplous people can reset the BMS and thus the # of capacity bars and apparently Leaf Spy data (e.g. AHr, SOH and Hx) can be artificially high until the car relearns the battery.eyemgh said:Two things are coming clear to me, I should give up on the auction idea and Leaf Spy data is critical.
See http://daveinolywa.blogspot.com/2014/11/buyers-beware-this-is-must-read.html and AntronX's posts at http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=489807#p489807, for example. You should look at capacity bars and Leaf Spy data but also cross reference with the previous locations the car resided (via Carfax and/or Autocheck), build month of car and whether the HV (big) battery was changed. Reset cars will be too good to be true.
https://www.facebook.com/notes/seattle-nissan-leaf-owners/a-guide-for-buying-a-used-leaf/1100737373291032/ may help, as well.
For reference, you can see what prices are like in my area: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/search/cta?sort=priceasc&auto_make_model=nissan+leaf&min_auto_year=2015&max_auto_year=2015. Change the model year range to whatever's ok w/you. http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=430825#p430825 was my saga of buying a used '13 SV w/premium back in July 2015. http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=429492#p429492 was a car I passed on and had some info about the auction (http://press.manheim.com/2010-07-27-Manheim-partners-with-nissan-motor-acceptance-corp-And-infiniti-financial-services-to-create-a-better-faster-way-to-turn-off-lease-inventory-into-sales) process.
The 5/2013 built used '13 Leaf I bought had 12 capacity bars at time of purchase and still does but is getting close to losing 1 now (at past 49K miles) per Leaf Spy stats.
