Could be very few coming off right now. Everyone is using their 3 free months waiting to see the gen 2 details. Could be a flood coming off shortly after if the 60 kWh option is delayed too long.

Spoke to Bill Werner at Star Nissan in Niles, IL (Chicagoland area) and here are the numbers he gave me for August for a 2015 Leaf:

24 months - 24,000 miles
S - $4300
SV - $4300
SL - $3300

36 months - 36,000 miles
S - $5500
SV - $5900
SL - $6100

Hope this helps!

Anyone know when one could purchase their Leaf and take advantage of incentives if one did the lease extension with the 3 payment covered?

Availability to be announced with current owners receiving highest priority. Speculation runs from Late December (for a few likely deliveries to claim 2017) to a more likely Jan 2018 for the real flow of cars to dealerships in primary areas of West and East Coast markets...

IOW; business as usual

Talked with Nissan Leaf specialist. They said I have to make 2 months of payments or they may make me pay back the 3 payments before I can do anything with the Leaf, turn it in etc. I'm thinking I may just want to buy it ASAP, with the right incentive of course.

My 2015 will be off lease in May '18. I'm hoping they still have the $5,500 incentive or higher and I may just buy the car.

I just discovered this thread... How long has Nissan been offering multi-thousand dollar incentives for folks to buy out their leases? Is this trend expected to continue? I know it couldn't be counted on 100%, but that might factor into my decision on whether to buy a 2017 now vs lease a 2017 for two years, then buy it out.

Get out your crystal balls!

if you buy.. you pay the price on the ticket... if you lease, you have the possibility that they might offer a discount to you.. they might. I'm glad I went with a lease. had I purchased it I would have paid $8000 more for the car. see my experience on pages 99-103 of this thread.. i think. there abouts.

What you are really asking is for how long will it be in Nissan's advantage to do so. Remember, the alternative is for you to turn the car in to them and they resell it. If resale value of 2 to 3 year old LEAFs remains substantially below the contract residual of lease return cars, it will continue to be in their interest to offer a several thousand dollar incentive. The new vehicles coming onto the market right now including the LEAF 2 can do nothing but drive the value of a used LEAF lower in my opinion. In other words, I expect the incentives to continue.

Not to mention, they just gave us 3 free months to sign a 6 month lease extension. We signed it today. It's a no brainer, not to mention the price of gas going up makes electric even better.

Here's hoping now that the new Leaf was revealed we can see some movement on what they plan to do with us current leasees.

I have a '15 S that I leased in May 2015. 3 years, 15k miles per year. Since I got a $5k state tax credit, I paid $5k down up front. My lease payment is only $129 a month. My lease doesn't expire until next May but I'm anxious to hear from Nissan regarding a buyout offer. Will Nissan Finance contact me themselves or will they have a dealer get in touch with me?

^^^ Nissan will NOT contact you for a buyout. That is the main reason this board message thread was started. You must find a dealer and go through them which....sucks. Most are clueless as to helping you buy your Leaf. Others are stealerships and will take a large portion of your incentive to buy it for themselves. I recommend going to several dealers and finding out exactly what Nissan's incentive buyout is...and then what the dealer is offering. A few months ago it was like $4k off the residual. Last year it was $7k. I hope it goes back up to that, but who knows. For some reason this thread has been dead lately. Dunno why. Maybe guys planning on buying the new Leaf? I am going to try and buy my 15 after my 6 month extension is up. 150 miles range is just not good enough for me on the 18.

I agree; the 150 mile range isn't enough of an improvement.

This is actually my 2nd Leaf. In GA we had a $5k tax credit in addition to the federal credit, but unlike the federal credit, GA allowed it to be taken on leased cars. The tax credit ended 6/30/15; I leased this car 45 days prior. Without the tax credit I never would've leased either Leaf.

The residual on my car is $9800. They will have to discount the buyout by at least $6500 or they'll be getting it back. It'll be 3 years old with 45k miles. Thanks for your advice. I suppose I'll begin contacting dealers after the 1st of the year.
