More on the microclimates and temp deltas mentioned at viewtopic.php?p=464260#p464260 for the SF Bay Area...
cwerdna wrote:On this note, for the 6/28/16 forecast, channel 7 news showed map where they called out a 38 degree difference within 50 miles. Specifically they forecasted 64 degrees for Half Moon Bay and 102 for Antioch.

edit: update on 6/28: On the 11 pm news on 6/27, the recorded high temps ranged from 61 F at Half Moon Bay to 87 in my city to 99 in Morgan Hill and 102 in Concord and Livermore. So, the delta from highest to lowest was 41 F.

Today, on KPIX news, they mentioned 44 degree (!) difference at locations just 45 miles apart They said it was 58 F in Pacifica while it was 102 in Vacaville.

I don't understand why I haven't lost the 9th like the rest of you. I just don't think it's going to happen in time.

That close on miles stop driving the car much.
But use it in your garage running AC or Defrost on 90F high fan with windows open and do multiple cycles of discharge and recharge and start stop.

The SOH, AHr, and Hx do not update unless vehicle moves some distance.

But my fourth capacity bar dropped after a couple days use in the garage with the vehicle not having moved.

Keeping pack warm 103F or higher may also be important in bar loss.
But I think it also requires charge discharge cycles.

You are close.
Good luck.

Checking in.....

AHrs: 41.5
SoH: 63%
Odo: 59,962

Going to rent a car next week, to see if it will drop in the driveway doing what Tim suggested. $200 car rental/wk is less than $5,500...though I'll likely pay on both fronts.

If a line of code dictates when the 9th bar drops, I'd love to read it.

Update:

At 100% charge my SOC is 91.2%, GIDS = 168, SOH 63%, bars 9.

My car is a 2013 SL for what it's worth. Most people who have lost bar #9 appear to be 2011/2012 owners. Mostly?

Yeah, but given your purchase date of Feb 2013 per viewtopic.php?f=30&t=13194&p=343395#p343395, your build date is before 4/2013. It seems '13 Leafs built on/after 4/2013 have batteries that degrade less.

If viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2523&p=270420#p270420 is still true, San Jose is definitely a hotter part of the Bay Area and Livermore is very hot. And, you're cycling the battery a lot more deeply than me, due to your long commute. Mine is only ~12 to 13 miles each way.

If you haven't already, please add your data to http://www.electricvehiclewiki.com/Real ... acity_Loss.

That's a bummer that you're so close in terms of the mileage limit but haven't lost the 4th bar yet. Hope you can do it before the limit. If you hit it, I would get the car towed, so that you don't end up over 60K miles when at the dealer.

Nissan Powerwall time. Hook up an inverter to power up your fridge or something! You are deadly close...

Yep. And when not being used as a Powerwall or doing what Tim suggested, let it bake out in the sun at 100% charge.

Although you don't want to move it much, due to being SO close on mileage, if there's a CHAdeMO DC FC within a few miles, drain the battery then DC FC to it nearly full while it's hot out, and then leave the car outside to bake with the AC running on full. DC FCing at high power will heat up the battery real well.

Don't do that

Part of what made me two weeks late was the dealer DCQC finally was repaired and I used it a couple weeks before my deadline.

Yes it does heat the battery.
But it also in the short term improves battery statistics.

Had I had free DCQC available nine months before deadline doing it would have helped.

But if close I would NOT do it.

Also my recommendation was inside a closed garage.
On a driveway pack will not be much above ambient.

Cycles will help.
But you really need the pack HOT.
Above 103F.
Above 110F if possible.

Ah, but then I'd have to clean out the garage to get the car in there. I'm just cycling it in the driveway...running the heater. Our driveway does have an oven quality...limited air flow, large reflective aluminum garage door...and the car has been baking 5 days a week in a tree-less livermore ca parking lot for 3 years...the last 1.5 years it trickle charges from 20-30% back to 80-90% in 8 to 9hrs...Monday through Friday...there was a wait list at work for ev charging.

The Kia Rio rental is booked for next week. I'm giving it one week to drop. Then whatever happens. For all I know 2013s are hard coded not to lose 9 bars. But that's conspiracy theory talk.
