The center console display for some reason will no longer go in all the way now after you close it.
For some reason it stops before closing fully and hangs out about half an inch from the bottom.
I don't even use the CD player hardly I just bumped the open button and it opened and when I tapped the button to close it again it will no longer fully retract.
Now every time I start the car it tries to close it with a winding buzz sound then gives up.
This is pretty annoying to go out only after 16 months and with very little usage.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Danny

I assume you tried adjusting the angle by pushing and holding the open/tilt button until you hear the ding. If not, you might be able to get it out of its stuck mode by doing that several times, letting it pick various angles until it gets back to trying the fully closed position.

If I remember correctly, this happened to me and I thought there was something wrong with it. But I think it's a feature to tilt it a little bit in case it helps give you better contrast if the lighting's not ideal. I think tapping the button would not get it back into the full vertical position. You have to push AND HOLD the button for a few seconds to get it back to the vertical mode.

Yep, been there, done that.
I finally broke down and read the user manual. It describes how to change the tilt angle.

Danny's problem is deeper than that. If you read his post, it says the unit grinds away every time he powers up. That means the computer thinks it is supposed to be in some position where it isn't, and cant get it there. Presumably something is either broken or blocking it. I thought moving it a number of times might dislodge whatever is blocking it. If that doesn't work, it's time to take it to the dealer.

Ray it was my pushing it in and the preset overriding when I re-started the car.

Thanks everyone for all your comments it helped me a realize I accidentally set a preset tilt.
I did in fact unwittingly put it in a tilt mode selection when I bumped it open.
Not knowing any better I tried to correct it by gently pushing it in a bit not force and it did go in easily enough but when I started the car again it would wind back into its set position.
Went through all tilt positions and it is fine now.
Luckily my stupidity did not break the mechanism.

ok, I have a different problem, so I guess I should start a new thread, but I'll post here for now and see how it goes.

I cleaned the inside of my car, wiped down the display, opened it and closed it a few times to clean, but now it won't
stop opening and closing. When the car is turned off, it keeps opening and closing every few seconds, like the button
is stuck. When the car is turned on it works fine. I can open it and it stays open. I can close it and it stays closed
(at tilt position). I turn the car off and it closes all the way, then starts up again opening and closing. I tried the
"car reboot" procedure by disconnecting the 12 v battery, but when I hook it up again it keeps going.

Any suggestions? Has anyone seen any threads on this topic?

Well, it stopped after about an hour or so. Maybe some liquid on the switch contacts? The 12v reboot didn't do it for me.

I'd almost forgotten the thing opens at all, until my wife burned me a CD for our anniversary. Old-school. :p

Same identical thing here. Cleaned the inside. Now the display just keeps opening and closing when the car is Off. Works fine when the car in On. I never opened the display just wiped down the screen. I'm thinking some issue with moisture on the display.

Disconnecting the 12v didn't work. Since disconnecting didn't work twice, my guess is that the person who thought disconnecting the 12v worked just happened to waited long enough so the cycling resolved itself and that disconnecting the battery didn't actually do anything.

I ran it through the car wash earlier today, that's another possibility, but the cycling started a few minutes after wiping down the interior. It's not harming anything but I was worried about the 12v battery running down, so I just put tape across the Open/Close button. That stopped it.

UPDATE: After reading this thread I decided that the problem would probably resolve itself so I took off the tap. Viola, no more cycling. My conclusion is that the screen doesn't like moisture, which kicks on the Open/Close cycling, and if you just let it cycle on and off for an hour or so everything goes back to normal.

Problem reappeared this morning. The display was in the Open position. Drove the car around the block. When it was turned off the display started cycling again. Holding the Close button stops it and the tape method worked again but that's a temporary fix. No time to take it in today. Maybe tomorrow.

Didn't have time to deal with this today, I have an appointment for tomorrow morning. The unit started cycling again and was quite hot to the touch, so I pulled the fuse. Knocks out the whole display but not a major problem. For reference, the fuse in under the hood. It's in the first row fourth from the right.

Took it in yesterday and, after calling Nissan, the word is that the entire console will have to be replaced. They don't have the part so we'll have to wait on that. They said the issue was very easy to reproduce. They just put the fuse back in and Out/Back, Out/Back.

Service was astoundingly better. The first time it literally stank -- the car smelled of BO when I got it back. The second time it was marginal. This time it was excellent, other than the fact that they weren't ready when I showed up at the appointed hour (early) and I got to hear somebody go on and on about his fantasy baseball game. It's like they took out the D Team and replaced it with the A Team.

The person I dealt with seemed to be a Leaf specialist. He told me I had just missed a tricked out lowrider Leaf with racing stripes. That would have been fun to see.

Well that's too bad. I just cleaned the inside of the car and my console started doing the same thing when the car is turned off. I am letting it cycle on and off for now, hoping it'll stop at some point.

If not, I plan to remove Fuse #34 (as highlighted in this picture: http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=3964#p134464" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) and then call the dealer.

I went to check on it and saw through the window that the console had stopped opening and closing. As soon as I unlocked the door, it stopped doing the open/close thing again.

I'll check one more time tonight and then take fuse #34 out. And call the dealer in the morning :(

my car is real dusty and was thinking about spending an afternoon with the armor all to get it sparkling but now i am nervous since this seems to be the main catalyst for this issue

Well, I left fuse #34 out all night and plugged it back in this morning and the console has been behaving so far. So I guess when the moisture has evaporated, it goes back to normal.

DaveinOlyWA, don't know what to tell you. Other than to be very careful when cleaning in and around the console :)

A damp (water soak then wring out) micro wipe is effective for me. If you need a stronger solvent / cleaner, apply the cleaner to the wipe - I would avoid spraying anything which could 'run' and short out electronics.
