I saw the story, but I'm wondering which 5 Leaf complaints are they investigating? Could it be they are the ones that actually filed the official complaints through their support phone #? That would be my guess, as that is probably their 'official' method of complaint.

Although I no longer have the LEAF with the lost capacity bar, I was very quick to file a complaint. I have an official complaint number written down somewhere, but I never received any follow-up. It is possible they know I no longer own that particular car, but I think it's just as plausible that they decided my complaint was heard and the loss was considered normal.

I do recommend that those with Capacity Bar losses should take it into the Nissan dealer. I did, so it documents that I got all 5's on my scorecard, and the car was about 10 months old with the first bar gone.

I wholeheartedly agree. I really don't understand why you wouldn't file a complaint. I think the inaction hurts owners trying to get something done and gives Nissan plausible deniability. The more vocal we are, the less likely Nissan can continue to ignore the problem. We LEAF owners need to support each other and watch out for others who may encounter the same issue.

I posted this in my other thread, but here is clear documentation that Nissan considers 15% loss in less than a year "normal." The EV community and all potential LEAF buyers need to be aware of this:

Also note in my battery report that the 12th bar on the right is missing and I still got all 5 stars. You can't complain without proof and I encourage everyone to do the same.

Thanks! I suspect the AZ and TX regional guys are going to be getting a lot of calls very soon.

I wished they would've discussed the capacity bar. For the people who have no clue about it, the GOM only helps confuse things further.

My Leaf has lost 1 bar...I believe it was due to me charging with a level 3 than later finishing it off when it only needed 3 bars...I woke up to see that I had only 11 bars :( so everyone becareful about topping it off cause you can lose yours too. Atric Leaf is what I named my car I bought it on August 31,2011 I have 12,734 miles when I lost my 1 bar....I will use caution when using the level 3 quick charge....my car is just over 10 monthes old...

After reading the article, I wonder whether our list of lost capacity bars should include date problem was reported to Nissan (not the dealer) and case number. I don't believe the "we are investigating 5 cases" crap at all... unless they have 20 complaints, but decided to only investigate 5 of them. :twisted:

Yeah, as much of of a pain as it might be for people to do, I'm definitely thinking there may be some benefit to trying to get EVERYONE with any measurable capacity loss to take their cars into the dealership and not leave until they have confirmation that the problem has been registered.

The news story was just the beginning. Since our car has been to the dealership 3 times recently to have them look it over and tell us everything is "normal," we'll work on everything else we have planned to get Nissan's attention...

I'd be happy to add that data to the Wiki if people would like to share the information.

Here is a start from Facebook: Andrea Convey, case 8897273. I don't know how many bars she has lost (sounds like at least 2), or whether she is already included on this list.

Thanks, I'm going to try to reformat the information into a table if I can (to make it easier to read now that it's growing so much). I'm learning the wiki coding as I go along, but hopefully I can get it done today.

Can you provide a reference link to where she posted this on Facebook?

LEAF 257 (already on the list)
Called Nissan 877-664-2738 on 16 July 2012.
Case number 8974570.

It's painless; they mostly update your contact info. Brenda showed no surprise that someone was calling in about lost battery capacity. They will ask what action you'd like from Nissan. In my case, with only one bar lost, I mainly wanted to go on record with the date and mileage. I'll update the record when the second and third bars go.

If you've lost bars, PLEASE notify Nissan!

I'm the OP. For quite a while I was trying to quietly get Nissan to help me, after 2.5 months of banging my head against Nissan's stone-wall and now not being able to make common trips that were no problem 6 months ago, I can't be quiet any longer.

Is it THAT much hotter in Phoenix where so many folks been experiencing all the battery bar losses?
Judge for yourself. Here are historical averages for

Phoenix, AZ: http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatology/monthly/graph/USAZ0166" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Omaha, NE: http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatology/monthly/graph/USNE0363" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

PS I would say YES, DEFINITELY!

These pages are out of date, at least for Seattle, WA. Record highs (click to turn on, doesn't show in URL) are easiest to show this, but the averages are moving up as well.

http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatology/monthly/graph/USWA0395" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Shows a record high in Seattle of 96F for July.

http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/climate/monthdisp.php?stn=KSEW&year=2012&mon=7&wfo=sew&p=temperature" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Seattle record high according to NWS is 105F in July 2009.

From the story:
Scott Yarosh said:
"When I first purchased the vehicle, I could drive to and from work on a single charge, approximately 90 miles round trip," Yarosh said.

And now, he says, "I can drive approximately 44 miles on this without having to stop and charge."
Yikes! Who was it that said most owners wouldn't notice if they didn't have the capacity gauge :roll:

44 miles? I'm guessing that's before LBW? I guess there was no other choice but to go to the media. I think Nissan has screwed up royally by letting it go this far. I was just bragging about how Nissan takes care of their customers with software updates, but wow have they dropped the ball here. 25+ reports out of 400 Arizona Leaf's is 6% and many have lost 2 or 3 bars. I'd be really surprised if there weren't 50 Arizona Leaf owners that have lost at least one bar and aren't on this forum.

I hope Nissan gets this fixed fast, but I don't like Perry's comment that they have just been made aware of it and only know of 5 cases :roll:
