Update: The car we brought home on 1/16/12 failed completely and had to be towed back to the dealership. After 3 days, the best Nissan could say was that it wasn't the main computer that failed, but the Cambus that runs throughout the system was feeding them garbage data when they scanned it. No one knows exactly what the problem is. On 1/24/12, Boulder Nissan, where we purchased the original vehicle, gave us a brand new car in Super Black with all the same options as the original car described below. We are very impressed with the dealership.

Note: Even though I ordered a car on January 12, the dealer had almost the exact car I wanted on the lot, so I bought that car on Monday, January 16. I had not ordered options, but this car had the mats and organizational package, which I had to pay for to get this orphan on the lot. I have not payed for or gotten the accessories I ordered.

Got about 2.1 m/kWh. This is the worst-case portion of our commute, so should be able to make the 44 mile round trip if we slow down a little and it is warmer.

The dealer received three Leafs in this delivery. Ours was the only Leaf picked up. There is a red orphan and a white orphan.

I was able to email all of the dealers in OR and ask who would give me the best deal. I ended up getting invoice pricing on all options and the car 2.79% below invoice. Dealerships get "hold backs". When Nissan dealerships move a car the day it arrives, they get an additional 2.79% below invoice. The percentage gets smaller until nothing if the car is still on the lot after 90 days. I got a 2011 SL with almost all the options and had to pay for the QC port since I am not part of the Ecotality project.

Gentlemen:

Just got out of the dealer after some intense haggling. I told him I will get back to him 24 hours. Here is the deal:

Blue Leaf, base model, NO quick charge port.

Buy: $32k plus taxes, title, registration
Lease: $14.5K total for 36 months, 15k miles per year. This includes taxes, title, registration.

FYI: if i were to buy, I do qualify for the full $7.5k fed tax credit.

What do you guys think? Inputs appreciated.

Thanks

2011 LEAF SV MSRP is $32,780 so you're basically getting MSRP on that. I'm assuming it's not a late model year with the Cold Weather Trim of Fog Lights, Heated Seat and Steering Wheel since that would add just under $1,000 to your MSRP and also that you don't need that.

Compare that to an 2012 LEAF SV MSRP at $35,200 with all that Cold Weather stuff. Over all, I'd say stick with the 2011. It was a better model year if you don't live in a cold climate.
