My Leaf has a "bib"

Sun Jun 19, 2011 12:39 pm

I made a "bib" for my Leaf, to protect the paint around the charging access door. I attached it to the two pop-up fasteners, as you can see. No drilling, etc. A 5-minute job. It folds back out of sight inside the opening really easily when you close the door. I used a piece of vinyl I had left over from when I did some upholstery work on an old Porsche many years ago. I remember that the Porsche had something similar to protect the area around the fuel filler opening. Notice that I had to cut out the center area, so the flap would not interfere with the access door latch when closing the door.

Sorta "crude"; but, it works, and is only visible when charging..

I tried to cancel my 'protection package' because I thought it was meant for stones, etc. When I went to pick up the car, the sales guy said it wasn't for that, but to protect the paint when charging. So now I'm glad I have it.

I was pleased with the "protector" also ... until I "tore" it with the hose last night when I was washing the car! The force of the garden hose actually pealed up a bubble. I had to remove it (and the glue residue) which took over an hour, including application of several coats of Mothers wax. Unreal.

Be careful when you wash!

Protect it from my wife's poor aim with the connector cord assy! I had her practice several times yesterday, and since her eyesight isn't the best, she sometimes tends to "hunt" for the receptacle.

That's why I use a dry car wash (Dri Wash 'N Guard') to 'wash' my car. I used to sell it back in the late 90's. I love that you don't have to use any water or hose, especially since we are in a drought (perpetual?) here. It emulsifies the dirt and doesn't scratch or leave swirl marks. It's great on windows too so I rarely have to use my wipers.
