Of course, there is a plethora of different Lithium Ion battery chemistries and designs, so this study may or may not carry over to the Leaf and other EV batteries...

It seems to not be an issue for the Tesla Model S and should be less of an issue for the Model X and 3 to come.

Sure, and I saw that this was with LiFePO4, which is know to be more temperature tolerant than the LEAF's LiMN2O4. Maybe this gives us a clue as to why that's the case.
