Perhaps its Combo, but this really looks like 100kW 'Chademo' will soon transition into reality.

As Chademo doesn't officially go to 100kW would it be called Kiademo ?

As pictured, the unit has two pistols, so it is more likely useful for delivering ~50kW X 2 than 100kW. There is also likely to be a loss from those 5 x 20kW chargers leading to a max output of 90-95kW.

I hate to burst bubbles, but CHAdeMO is still limited to 125 amps, not 200 amps.

So, no 100kW chargers. But, even if there was one, just because the charger can handle 200 amps doesn't mean that the car will request 200 amps.

THE CAR ALWAYS CONTROLS THE CHARGE SPEED UP TO THE LIMITS OF THE CHARGER !!!

agree with both Berlino and TonyW

but remember Kia advertises that their SoulEV will recharge in 25mins from a 100kW fast charger or in 33mins from a 50kW fast charger

http://www.kia.com/worldwide/about-kia/company/corporate-news-view.aspx?idx=718" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

'achieving an outstanding ‘fast charge’ time of 25 minutes (100 kW DC) or 33 minutes (50 kW DC). '

so where will these 100kW DC fast chargers be?

so they exist today

They probably are requesting higher than 120 amps. The pack voltage is nearly the same as the leaf (96 cells in series). Yeah the qc probably not "blessed" by CHAdeMO like that.

The charger tells the car what it's capable of and the car requests what it wants. Here the charger just says it is able to deliver 100kW and the car is capable of requesting/drawing 100kW so it does! Not 100% CHAdeMO 1.0 but it works!

If the Kia is indeed 96 cells in series * 4.1-ish volts per cells, then we still have a 400 volt battery like LEAF, Tesla, et al.

That means that even the 100kW CHAdeMO would only charge at 200 amps max * 400 volts = 80kW

Otherwise, 100kW into a Soul EV would require 250 amps. Tesla maxes out at about 330 amps.

The current limitations of CHAdeMO are 500 volts * 125 amps = 62.5kW

The future limitations of CHAdeMO are 500 volts * 200 amps = 100kW

I've been searching around the internet to find the spec of these 100kW stations but haven't found anything. My guess is that it's something custom (not "future CHAdeMO") and capable of 250 amps.

Not that I've seen "alot" of CHAdeMO handles in my time  but those pictured are not Yazaki ones correct?

So they have custom ones made for them, and probably rated for the higher power levels?

My guess is pure marketing bullshit, not based in fact.

quick calcs, could this be a higher power Chademo?

assumptions
27kWh battery
93% SOC range
80% recharge SOC
gives a 20kWh recharge into battery
90% charger efficiency
22.3kWh charger "power"

charging level - no taper
33min 40.5 kW
25min 53.5 kW
53.5 kW at 80% full, that seems possible, but high

some taper (+- 25%)
33min 50kW start, 30kW end (80%)
25min 67kW start, 40kW end (80%)
30kW (80%) seems better

more taper (+-45%
25min 78kW start, 30kW end (80%)

so choosing a recharge rate of 30kW at end of 80% charge, matches a 80kW at start of charge...

its is still possible for this to be strictly a 125 amp charger, its also matches quite nicely as a 200amp charger.
