This is an old article from my blog. But it seems appropriate here.

----

Just a left - right political scale is too simplistic.

Atleast you should consider a two dimensional map like the one http://www.politicalcompass.org proposes.

The old one-dimensional categories of 'right' and 'left', established for the seating arrangement of the French National Assembly of 1789, are overly simplistic for today's complex political landscape.
The X axis takes the economic views while the Y measures social attitude. You can take the 6 page quiz which will tell you where you fall.

Here are the mapping of some well known historical personalities.

So, where do US politicians stand ? When, someone says US is a center-right country, they aren't joking.

And finally, here I'm.

Wow, I'm -3.5, -3.5. I would have thought I was around the origin. Maybe the survey questions are biased to put people in the "green" box?

My brother, who is Libertarian, is always annoyed when I call him an Anarchist. ROFL, I will be forwarding him this chart....

Don't be surprised if your brother comes in as closer to authoritarian than libertarian. Unfortunately, a lot of US libertarians are actually just in the middle or slightly towards authoritarianism (like Ron Paul). They seem to like liberties for themselfs, not so much for others.

Wow...cool site. I scored economic: -8.16; social libertarian/authoritarian -6.00

Maybe been listening to a little too much Progressive radio!

And my how my scores have changed since I've gotten older.

I think I've done this before, but I did it again to see if I had changed at all. I hadn't. I'm Economic Left/Right: -6.25 and Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.62

Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -4.50
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.62

Holy crap...I'm basically the freakin Dali Lama....

My semi-Buddhist mother would be proud...

Well, it's been a long time since I've taken one of these -- what is it, 10 years now? Well, so be:

Green as well. -3.12 on economic scale -- socialist; and -5.54 on the social scale -- half the way to let it all hang out! Far out, man!

So....what has this to do with the Nis :? san Leaf???

Economic Left/Right: -7.62
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.08

I am, more or less, Ghandi. :D The funny thing is....30 years ago I would have counted myself as a Thatcherite Conservative.

One thing that was definitely reinforced by that quiz....I am DEFINITELY AND COMPLETELY anti-corporate. Not that I didn't know that before.

Here's mine. It's interesting and fun. However, if it would have asked, "Are you a lying, cheating, hypocrite?" then you might see more dots in the upper right.
