...Tesla owners need not apply.

Purchase an EV or lease for 48 months: $2500

The LDPLI is currently accepting applications for the purchase or lease of new eligible vehicles powered by compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), or electric drive (plug-in). To apply for a Rebate grant under the LDPLI, applicants must purchase or lease from a dealership or leasing company authorized to sell or lease new vehicles in Texas.

I got this snippet from my friendly dealer:

"The State of Texas has started the grant program on electric vehicle today. On a 2 year lease you will get back $1,250 on a 3 year lease $1,850 and on a purchase $2,500. This program is limited to the first 2,000 applications or until funding is gone. They will not take any application after June 26."

Even with all the limitations, this shows some bipartisan support for EV programs that red state legislatures are passing such bills. Not sure why some people fear for the 7.5k federal tax credit.

Sorry for veering into politics:

Sarcasm on:
Because it is a deficit boosting, free market distorting, job killing program.
The role of the government should not be to pick winners and losers, because it picks only losers...
On the other hand the government should continue to subsidize the oil industry generously, otherwise the gas prices go up.
Sarcasm off.

Its pretty impressive if you plug in the numbers.

I almost closed a deal on 2014 Leaf S with QC couple of weeks ago at a dealer in DFW.
Was getting $25,595 after $2,500 NMAC incentive for financing + ttl
On top of that you add the Texas $2,500 rebate + Fed tax credit $7,500

That equates to $15,595, obviously you pay taxes on the $25,595 so you end with about $18,500 after all credits - not bad of a deal as it comes out cheaper than a honda civic :)

Obviously battery degradation and texas heat led me to lease one - I ended up leasing the 13 Leaf SL loaded for 2 years for about $300, and just received the $1250 cheque from the state of Texas, brings the payment down to $250/m

Cant even lease a Versa for that much cash :) One happy customer!

Go to choosenissan.com
Just checked now - Nissan is now offering $3,500 nmac cash if financed through Nissan!

So now the total savings if bought will be - $3500 + $7500 + $2500 = $13,500

Financing is 0% for 72 months

That is a better deal from last month!

Stunning. When I purchased (2011) not only was there no NMAC "incentive" but my interest rate was 3%.
