Size of the card shouldn't really make a difference. Maybe it doesn't like the default format on the card. Have you tried reformatting it your computer?

If you are referring to the SD Card slot in the NAV unit, you cannot replace it yourself. There are MANY threads on here about how each SD Card is custom for each Clarion unit, and can only be supplied by a Nissan dealer for some ridiculous $350 price, if I recall. We usually caution anyone looking at a Leaf with a missing SD Card to either walk away from the deal, have the dealer replace it first, or get a $350 discount to replace it.

No the map data card that came with the vehicle is fine. I just need to get one for the slot a to store things like routes and phonebook numbers. I will try to reformat the 8gb card i have.

You may have to drop down to a 4gb or 2gb card in order for it to be recognized.

True: I think 4Gig may be the upper limit (has to do with the "old" number of address bits). Remember, the system in the Leaf was designed > 5 years ago.
