Should I buy or not? How can I tell if I will get a free battery replacement???

Mileage needs to be under 60,000 and the car needs to be less than 60 months old. Check the mileage and grab the VIN.

Call 877-664-2738 to talk to Nissan Leaf support and verify that the warranty is applicable (there was an opt out but it was only a few cars so it's unlikely to have opted out).

If the mileage checks out and the Nissan Leaf support tells you the warranty is good then you get a free battery and it'll drive like new assuming no wrecks/frame damage/flood damage.

oh and either way if you buy it or not share the VIN, build date (from the driver door label), and anything else you can so we can add it to the bar loss wiki (take a look at the URL in my sig and see if the VIN is already there).

Thank you Dhanson. Does the 2012 SL have leather or cloth seats? The car says SL and has cloth seats. Is it possible?

Factory leather wasn't available on ANY Leafs until 2013 model year. It's standard (and only available) on 2013+ SL.

All 2011 - 2012 Leafs ONLY came with light cloth interior.

Something doesn't seem "right" about a 2012 with only 6 bars, in case anybody might be wondering... Use appropriate care and consideration before getting engaged.... Just saying...

Yes. Does it really have only 6 bars or was it a pic of the dash as the car was booting?

Also, why wouldn't someone else scoop it up and get the battery changed then sell it for more? Are people just ignorant? Where did the car reside?

The car is at an auction (Nissan Lease returns) and I have a dealer license. I notice plenty of cars that come with an announcement of 5 bars to 7 bars. They have 25-30K miles each

Crazy... where are you located? Where are these cars coming from? Phoenix? Death Valley? Texas?

Have you personally confirmed they have that many capacity bars lost? http://www.electricvehiclewiki.com/File:Scott_3_bars_s.jpg is a 3 BL.

Unless there is a picture actually showing the stated capacity bars my guess is it is charge bars and someone who is responsible for providing this information is simply ignorant.

I am in Chicago. The car is from Ohio. I have not seen the car myself. Here is the VIN JN1AZ0CP8CT016830. Has 17K miles!

I don't have any means of running VIN checks anymore (Autocheck and Carfax subscriptions expired). Do you have a pic of this car showing that it has only 6 capacity bars? As I said, I suspect the pics was taken when the Leaf was booting and thus inaccurate.

Some pics here, none showing the bars:

What's intereseting, there is a russian web-site that exposes manheim listings, probably violating terms of use, and it shows the same car:

I don't buy it. They have to be ignorantly reporting the battery level bars. There's no way that there are that many 5-7 bar losers.

Completely agree. This thread is a waste of time. If the OP is so interested in these vehicles, then he needs to do his own leg work to verify.

It baffles me as well.

MLWASH: You don't need to respond to this thread.

I cannot physically go to the auction and no pictures of the dash are provided. I am only trying to make an informed decision. I believe a leaf will be a excellent around town car. Thank you for posting the phone number to call. I called and verified that the leaf is still under warranty. I hope I can get it for a steal considering that they are claiming a 5 bar battery. I hope they are right!

There is a picture of the dash:

It has all the capacity bars. I think they're looking at the battery temperature bars and reporting that.

That was the car from last week. I guess they made a mistake on it. I am going to bid on this one and hope for the best :)
